My guess is this:
1. Fappening occurs in 2014 and Sup Forums gets major news coverage and is all over reddit
2. Around the same time Moot nukes Sup Forums which spreading a wider audience to the other boards
3. Terrorist attacks in France attracts even larger audience
4. Populist sentiment and dissatisfaction with the establishment left wing come to ahead in Europe and the US with the Presidential Election and Brexit- Sup Forums explodes/receives more media attention

Unlike virtually everywhere else on the internet, here you can have pretend nazis, real nazis, sjw's, liberals, frogposters, tinfoil hatters, warming skeptics, environmentalists, vegans, neocons, transhumanists, christians, communists, biocons, libertarians...
all posting at the same time, whenever they feel like, to any thread they feel like, without anyone knowing who they are, what ideas they're expressing, or enacting any kind of retribution on them irl for saying the wrong things - even if they don't necessarily agree with what they said in the first place. Which means people come here to talk about things, because they know that at least here they can actually TALK. Anywhere else and the globalist media and their nosey peers silence them for stepping marginally out of line with the establishment narrative.
It's only going to keep growing. Society is so sickened right now that the only avenue for political discourse is through anonymous means. Until that changes - until you can speak your mind without being viciously attacked for not agreeing with the corporatist/globalist elite, Sup Forums and anywhere similar will keep getting visitors.
It's easy to have tons of posts when most of them are completely worthless bullshit.
