Talk about the German Revolution of 1918 and how it fed into Nazism and German anti-Semitism. It will create a connection in the student's minds between communism and Jews.
Do this, OP. Talk about how the communists had murdered millions before the Nazis even got a single seat in the Reichstag. Talk about how New York and London bankers were financing the Bolsheviks.
We used mostly that text in my College level American History class. Was pretty frustrating.
A casual mention of Judea declaring war, and the Jewish contribution to Communism, would put the context for the holohoax on display. And it shouldn't be hard to touch on allies bombing camps, red cross numbers being inflated after the fact, Hitler spamming peace accords around battle of britain, etc. It's the sum of all the little details. God bless you for opening the eyes of some of these kids.
Mention the gulags, the ukrainian famine, basically all the points Dr. Peterson mentions in connection to the commies when he starts talking about them in his lectures. Perhaps expand that to the other communist (failed) states so you can nip the "BUT THAT WASN'T TRUE COMMUNISM" argument in the bud.
Be well researched though because I bet my bottom dollar you're going to have at least a few tumblrinas or edgelords want to say that you're wrong.

I covered the Armenian and Greek genocides during the first war, as a way to open the students eyes to Islam. Holdomor is certainly being covered, we have a huge Ukrainian population here near Seattle.

That's good. That definitely widens the options available. I tried going over the nazis and barely had time to start explaining how regularly people like me or my students could do those things (mentioning the Milgram experiment, etc) but barely had time to delve into that before I had to move on.
If I could go back in time I'd devote a whole day to that alone, maybe do some little activity to help show that.

You could touch on some of the actual figures behind communist atrocities.
Mention Lazar Kaganovich(Kagan) and his work in the Ukraine, his use of slaves, his destruction of churches. Mention early on his connection to Stalin, as Stalin's brother in law, and his Yiddish Jewish heritage. Just a light mention, but it will color the rest of his atrocities when they compare them to the atrocities of the 3rd riech.
Also a talk about Genrihk Yagoda, and his direct role in the slaughter of ten million or more, along with his religion. For effect talk about how he is rarely talked about and most people have never heard of him, then show the picture of him with his Hitler moustache. That will get some synapses firing. Also be sure to date this all as starting before Hitler's rise.
Show a map of the Gulag system, and the amount of concentration camps the Jews ran.
Then show a map of the locations of the "death camps" of the Stalag system, with the post-war borders showing them all behind Soviet lines.
Go subtle though, this might be too much to say out front, but casual nonchalant mentions and little details which add up
