Could any Hunganon give me some tl;dr about the current political situation in his country? What are the main current trends, eg. which party is gaining support, which one is losing in polls? Is there any possibility for the left to rebuild their support? Also - which site in English would be the best source of news about Hungarian politics?

There's not much chance that Fidesz will loose the elections in 2018.
The leftists are as divided as ever and even if they join in some random desperate coalitions they will never beat Fidesz.
What language is easier to learn? Polish or Hungarian?
>What are the main current trends, eg. which party is gaining support, which one is losing in polls? Is there any possibility for the left to rebuild their support? Also - which site in English would be the best source of news about Hungarian politics?
Well Fidesz is the strongest political power, they are kinde of central right party, slowly but shurely they are loosing their suport.
Jobbik the farright company is loosing their support because they are turning to the russians and some musulmans for money. This caused that the extremist farright suporters flipped out.
The leftside is dead. Mszp is the strongest, but other parties like szdsz, Lmp and this new momentum maybe has 5% support.
So at the end of that, there is no good alternative to vote... I realy cant tellyou good sites, because of reasons.
>Polish or Hungarian?
Probably Polish, it has an added benefit too. If you learn that language you will be able to understand other slav languages. On the other hand, if you manage to learn Hungarian you will learn a new style of thinking.
Portuguese.
Köszönöm!
Both are a pain in the ass for foreigners, imho. Polish is an Indo-European language, so technically speaking it's easier for a native English speaker, but Hungarian is more regular.
What my brother tells me, with is friends from hungary, is that the magyars are based. Só far wobderfull people.
hasn't Fidesz called muslims entering Hungary an invasion and a threat of Christianity and civilization? you are also putting refugees in shipping containers and are enforcing your borders with extreme prejudice. you hungarybros are being basically governed by pol
Estou de acuerdo, portugues e mais facil que polones, mas tem suas peculiaridades tambem, por exemplo o subjuntivo e mais dificil.
We have one man rule. Like in the "good" old days. Probably even taking orders from Moscow like in the "good" old days.
>Probably even taking orders from Moscow like in the "good" old days.
Why? It's natural that Orban tries to manoeuvre between the UE and Russia. Of course, Russia is not a country that may establish normal relations, even with its friends, but still Orban has to show Germans that he has some other options.
bumpureketezsbalascamaratereketek
>leftist shill
>MUH RUSSIAN HACKERS
Its simple, fidesz for the next 20 years because all the opposition parties are ruined beyond belief and none of them would be even able to govern without immediatly collapsing
Thanks. Another questions - are the some alarming tendencies in Fidesz itself? Ome Hungarians I've met complained that he tends to oligarchize economy - is it true? If true, is it dangerous? (I'm asking, because we have the same complains here from some leftards, but in fact our government rather tries to remove harmful German influence, eg. from our media).
>Ome Hungarians
Some Hungarians, sry
Its leftist whining. Everything is an alarming, anti-democratic, anti-european tendency to them.
>our government rather tries to remove harmful German influence, eg. from our media
Orbán decided that atleast of the 50% the strategic industries(power, telecommunications. banking etc.) must be held by hungarians or controlled by case by case strategic agreements between the government and the company.
The latest is that Orbán is putting pressure on the Central European University, one of the Sorosest organizations Soros has.
CEU has been here since the early 1990's, nobody really bothered them and they didn't really bother anyone despite the fact that it's a Soros organization. It's just... ...there. Now suddenly out of the blue the Government is bringing down the hammer on them. The moderate right, the center, disillusioned former Orbán fans and everyone to the left of Orbán are in MAXIMUM OVERRAGE mode. Soros or not, this is bullshit.
>complains here from some leftards
Here's the problem. Not just leftards, plenty of right-wingers hate Orbán and the Fidesz and not just the far-right. But of course everyone who openly dislikes Orbán is automatically a leftard who presumably types the comment with a dildo sticking out of his anus. As for the oligarchy, yes, it is true. Key captains of industry are made sure to be loyal to Orbán.
Wich make's them the most based country on the planet.
Simicskó, the war secretary seems to be the only decent member of the government who actually seems to care about his job. All the other decent Fidesz politicians (Pokorni, Martonyi) have left the party or simply keep their mouth shut.
>Its leftist whining. Everything is an alarming, anti-democratic, anti-european tendency to them.
OK, so it's exactly the same as here.
>CEU
Well, my supervisor wanted to send me there, but I refused, I guess it's a matter of taste.
>plenty of right-wingers hate Orbán and the Fidesz and not just the far-right
So what is your option? Is there some other party, like some descendant of that old agrarian party or something like that?
It migth also be because of the version you are learning. Judging on the use of gerúndio you have, probably brasilian.
Kek, pic related is "our" minister od defense
>The moderate right, the center, disillusioned former Orbán fans
Please dont tell me you fell for the "NOT GONNA LIE I VOTER FOR ORBÁN BUT..." shills.
Its just the liberals trying to drum up "controversy" and pretend they have widespread support which isnt true.
Sim, PT brasileiro tem mais recursos como Duolingo
Then he let a bunch of muslims, russians and chinese into the eu, because they paid into his pocket
He is a hypocrite. If he could tax refugees we'd have a mosque on every corner
>"Your "humanitarian" concerns are not an issue to me. You will carry out the order and you will stop causing me problems. Is that understood. Good. Consider this your first and final warning."
Funny thing is, we used to have an agrarian party. Their imbecile of a leader fucked it up and Orbán gave them the coup de grace. There was another party, the Magyar Demokrata Fórum, but Orbán destroyed them as well. There are the Christian Democrats whom less than half percent supports and who worship Orbán as their Lord and Saviour. Apart from that? The Jobbik.
We have some new organizations forming, we'll see how they turn out. There is a lot of anger and a lot of demand for new right-wing conservative parties and where is demand, there will be supply.
>Orbán decided that atleast of the 50% the strategic industries(power, telecommunications. banking etc.) must be held by hungarians
Then he and his friends bought every form of media with taxpayer money
How many billions is his sthroman worth now again? We live in a country that is entirely supported by no industry just the circulation of tax money, and nobody cares if they get a slice.
You hate leftists, but you are perfectly fine with a socialist society
>No more games. I will crush you like a worm and to be entirely honest, I will enjoy it. You have no idea how fucked you are. You have no idea who you are messing with.
>confusing protective state capitalism with ((liberal market capitalism)))
>You're finally awake. Did you sleep well? I trust that my men have treated you with the hospitality you deserve. Now let's have a little chat, shall we?
Tell me more about this guy. On every photo of his, he looks like he's about to say something villainish.
>Funny thing is, we used to have an agrarian party.
Yep, that's what I was refering to. And don't get me wrong, I understand that it may be complicated, for example I don't fully support our current government. The point is that if not them , we could already have Muslim districts in statu nascendi here (our former PM was a German shill, now Merkel made him the President of the European Council). On the other hand our current government imports Ukrainian workforce and I don't support this policy. It's always complicated, but there are also some obviously wrong options and some less harmful choices.
>protective state capitalism
Ah yes, paying billions to german carmakers to make factories here. Only 1 million euros per jobs created, Donald Trump eat your heart out
He is a forme radical anti-communist oppositionist. He is partially OK (eg. he tries to remove all old communist officers from our army, he destroyed a post-communist military sicred service WSI, etc.), but he is also fanatically pro-American/pro-Israeli/anti-Russian. It's not how one works in politics, imho, eg. I'm very anti-Russian too, but I think that my country shouldn't care that much about all that war in Ukraine, sometimes one simply needs to sit down and sip tea watching as two of your deadly enemies fight losing resources - an enemy of your bigger enemy doesn't necessarily becomes your friend, that's all, and he seems to not understand this fact.
Importing Ukrainians is still better than Muslims. As for Orbán... ...well, let me tell you about Lajos Simicska.
He was literally Orbán's dormmate in college years. People remember him being some kind of a weird, introverted genius who dressed like he was mistaken for the janitor and in one occasion came to class wearing slippers, but if he said something about the topic discussed, everyone else listened. Him and Orbán became close friends.
When the Fidesz lost the elections in 1994, Orbán decided that the Fidesz must not be without its own media outlets and its own background. They need their own entrepreneurs who will finance the party so that the Fidesz would not depend on others and would not have to make compromises. Enter Simicska, he meticulously built up an economic background for the party.
>sicred service
secret*, lol, sry
>Importing Ukrainians is still better than Muslims
Not for us, watch this movie, and you will understand why:
imdb.com
In 1998, the Fidesz won the elections and Orbán became PM for the first time. Simicska was nominated as the head of the APEH (Hungary's IRS). Under his tenure, the APEH operated with improved efficiency, but was also used as an attack dog against Orbán's political enemies. Tax audits are powerful weapons. Simicska was under constant attacks from the opposition and resigned in the end of 1999, officially because his father and his father-in-law died because of stress. Reportedly, his last words to the press were "you killed my father and my father-in-law, may God have mercy on you!"
After that, he retired from publicity and organized the Fidesz's entrepreneural background from behind the scenes.
When the Fidesz lost the elections in 2002, they had a considerable economical background behind them. Simicska was pretty much the treasurer of the party, a grey eminence.
interesting, I will check some articles about this guy, I could read about him, but I'm not sure if it was the same story
Topkek Pablo. You actualy made me laugh
Simicska rarely appeared in public and seldom gave interviews. Even photos of him are rarer than of most people of his caliber. He is reportedly rather reclusive and disdains opulence. He doesn't go to gala events and such, smokes cheap cigarettes and all, despite that he's pretty much one of the richest Hungarians. Between 2002 and 2010 he steadily grew more and more powerful.
FeelsFuckingGoodMan to be bassed
Check'd btw
In 2010, Orbán became PM again. The left was in complete ruins, enabling Orbán to became the all-powerful figure he is today. Simicska's companies won all government contracts, but calling the Fidesz out on it was impossible. Despite the victory, Orbán and Simicska began being more and more hostile towards each other. Simicska spoke his mind too much and Orbán believed that it's time to pay Simicska for his services and replace him with someone more loyal and less smart.
On the other hand they didn't call them "refugees" this time, kek.
>Why?
Because if you start "maneuvering" the next thing you know you're like Belarus and have a Russian base in the country and no possibility to leave the Russian sphere without a war.
This country is full of dumb fucks that would let Russia to recolonize them again. At least Poland is not like that.
>fearmongering about russians
didnt work for clinton, didnt work for liberals, didnt work for anyone since 1991
This is what I'm talking about.
>This country is full of dumb fucks that would let Russia to recolonize them again.
What to do in vacation to Hungary?
Hunganon here i thi--
Oh, you meant Hungarian
He is right tho, you are separated by the Carparhia, so Russia isn't a relevant threat, but just remember that Putin's visit when you tried to befriend them and he simply shat on the memory of your anti-communist uprising - this is how Russia works, their political culture and their concepts of international relations are extremely primitive, one cannot befriend them
>Fidesz will not loose
Do Hungs view this as good or bad? How does he compare with Orban?
>muh russians
Ahahahaha look at this shill, look at him and laugh.
>Carparhia
Carpathia, sry again for all typos
What? Fidesz is Orbán's party.
No one says we should go and hug the bear, but we shouldnt go and kick it for no reason either.
All this fearmongering is a primitive clinton meme
I thought Orban was Jobbik? Are Jobbik and Fidesz the same?
Nah, jobbik decided to chase the leftist vote starting 2014 and started kicking out hardliners from the party. They slid back to the third place now and keep bleeding voters.
No, Vona Gábor (pic related) is the leader of the Jobbik and they have less then half of Fidesz's voters. Jobbik is more nationalist and Fidesz is more centrist. But it'd be easier to look it up

>you are separated by the Carparhia, so Russia isn't a relevant threa
We have a border with Serbia so they will come from the South. They are very active in the region.
theguardian.com
No. Orbán is the leader of Fidesz, Jobbik is a radical wing party. While Fidesz strenghtened it's right-wing image during the migrant crisis, Jobbik tried to soften his own image. No more talk about revision, leaving the EU, banning some foreign medias, Turanism, Hungarian Guard etc. They refused to vote against the migrant quotas and against the CEU recently, people who disagreed with this were fired one way or the other.
Nowadays I think Fidesz is more right-wing than Jobbik. they unironically believe that their image change is good, while in reality it'll result in a huge catastrophe in 2018. The majority of the country is right-wing sympathizer or simply not interested after all. Stealing votes from the left is impossible for a former far-right party.
Except as said, Jobbik has basically become the socialist party by now, in case you haven't noticed.
Got it. koszonom.
It's funny; US newspapers often seem to present Orban in association with Jobbik. I've never even heard of Fidesz before and I typically read everything I can about Hungarian news here. More Fake News. Thanks for clearing this up.
I kinda hope that faggot Vona will leave and Toroczkai becomes the leader of the party.
They agree on some stuff since they are both right wing, but that's all.
Nah, jobbik defended CEU. They are full blown leftist shills now.
Because the only news the (((mainstream media))) gives you is
>Hungary's FAR RIGHT LEADER, Orbán
>Jobbik, Hungary's FAR RIGHT PARTY said/did X
So no wonder you mixed them up. Orbán isn't far right at all, but he doesn't suck EU cock on regular basis so naturally he's "literally Hitler".
My point was that even mantaing normal relationships with them is close to impossible, I could give you hundreds examples, like Russia is negotiating some agricultural deal with us and suddenly two dead boars infected with some rare Syberian desease are found near Polish-Belarusian border; like when they train nuclear strikes on Warsaw ever 4-5 years, but then they are buttblasted that we locate anti-misissle shields here or when they try to monitor our official buildings using drones and then they are surprised that we arrest their citizens operating these drones, etc, etc, I could write for hours.
Visit Budapest, it is a beautiful a city, but it became really diverse and multicultural (by our standards) but still worth it since there are so much to do there. Alternatively you can visit other cities for example Debrecen, Szeged or Sopron. If you want to come in summer, then go to lake Balaton since there are a lot of festivals there. Go to Siófok it is a quite nice city. In summer there are several hundred thousand people there.
>Turanism
What's going with that strange ideology? I've heard that some leader of Jobbik visited Turkey and he praised Islam, or something like that. WTF?
This is exactly right.
Turanism means that there is a spiritual relationship and cultural ties between steppe nomad peoples and their descendants. It isn't as bad as it sounds. Or at least I went to a Kurultai a few years ago out of curiosity and it was pretty fun. Hungarians and all kinds of Central Asians peacefully larping together, discussing cultural similarities and such.
Their only goal is to weaken Fidesz and take over the wheel, that is why they are doing it and imho it is disgusting.
I've heard that Russia tried some shit in Montenegro, yep
This. I was pretty incredulous myself but decided to check out the Kurultáj on a boring day and I was pleasantly suprised. Its literally just steppecon and larping.
Also, having a bunch of countries who are sympathetic to you is never a bad thing to have.
Yeah, before the migrant crisis, when the party was a bit into antisemitism.
Turanism itself says that all Turkic/Mongolid people should have stronger ties, since (supposedly) we have the same roots. It became popular in Hungary after WWI, since the country was surrounded with enemies, and distrust towards Slavs, Germans and subhuman r*manians became high among Hungarians (it still is high, especially towards our Eastern parasitic neighbor).
It's a cancerous ideology, feeding on the Right.
OK, but unlike Russia, Turkey or Mongolia, Hungarian historical traditions weren't shaped by those Turanian infuences (by historical I mean "written"). Poles also role-play as nomadic Iranian Sarmatians, it was like an official ideology for 1/4 of millenium here, but it doesn't mean that we see any similarities between us and Central Asians. Actually "the Turanian civilization" is a derogatory term here:
>Feliks Koneczny divided civilizations into about twenty types, of which seven types still exist. Four are ancient: "Brahmin," "Jewish," "Chinese," and "Turanian". Three are medieval: "Latin," "Byzantine," and "Arab." The differences between civilizations are based on their attitude to law and ethics.
>For example, Koneczny claimed that in Latin civilization, ethics is the source of law. If some laws are not ethical, then they are changed. Religion is autonomous, independent and separated from the state. Individuality, self-rule and decentralization are highly valued. Government is judged on the basis of its adherence to ethics. The law is of dual nature, divided into public and private spheres.
>In Turanian civilization, the government is the source of law and ethics and stands above the law and ethics. The ruler cannot be doubted. Koneczny considered Russia under the Tsars an example of this type of civilization.
en.wikipedia.org
Besides, why look down on larping as steppe warriors? Think about it: horse riding is a healthy sport. So is archery. Combining the two is hard and fun at the same time. These things take effort and dedication. I respect a dedicated horseback archer a lot more than a soccer player.
Kurultai is fun and all, larping as a steppe nomad has it's own charm.
But mixing Turanism into politics is extremely retarded.
can i get quick rundown on romania
We should run them down quickly.
Turanism is basically the "Finns are actually mongols" meme made real. It was invented by Turks back in the 1920s when they were creating their artificial country and wanted to claim heritage from gooks despite being greco-kurd rapebabies. So they drew up a bunch of maps and did research on ancient steppe peoples like the Gokturks and the Ashina clan and determined that all the irrelevant countries like Mongolia, Finland and Turkmenistan were- with Turkey- part of a glorious race of steppe people.
Praise tengri.
Parasitic, ungrateful pests. We should've killed genocided these subhumans when we had the chance
>Key captains of industry are made sure to be loyal to Orbán
so just like every developed country, but without the good PR. Do you think that the german chancellor, the british prime minister or the french president isn't buddy-buddy with their country's industrial leaders. The dutch Dijsselbloem always took the CEO of ING to international meetings. Cameron had regular meetings with Rupert Murdoch. In Germany the VW has THE most voice in policy making. But yeah, Hungary is ebil and nazi.
...
...
This time they failed but they succeeded in Moldova and Bulgaria I think. They will not give up trying in Serbia.
Just imagine what they could do if the price of oil went back up to $150.
cheap escorts, thailand of eu. Except if you are muslim, then you are still not welcome by pros
>>Hungary's FAR RIGHT LEADER, Orbán
just like our PiS and Kaczyński, for fuck's sake, I'm far right and I feel offended when they imply this, both Fidesz and PiS are centre-right at best, with strong pro-social influences.
Disgusting people. Betrayed us several times so they cannot be trusted at all but i must give them that they are excellent at diplomacy and turning everyone against us. They even created some fake shit history for themselfs. Unfortunatley they didn't change so they are the same Hungarian hating coward untrustworthy American dick sucking shitskin thiefs as they were in the past.
>hink about it: horse riding is a healthy sport
Actually horseback riding may cause impotence, google Scythian disease
beautiful country, cute women, latin language, very capable persons. All of this ruined by gipsies and communism. I like them and Hungarians, I'd prefer to have a (white) Romanian neighbor over an English, Danish or German one.
My god, that's so fucking american
Let's all move to Budapest stolze ungarin 1488
The hue version of portuguese might honestly be one of the easiest languages to learn and speak.
Vona is a Turanist and believes that Turks and Hungarians are the same people and should form an alliance.
Unfortunately that's something many extremely pro-market oriented people seem to not understand, the government should remove all obstacles that slow small/medium industry, but large industry cannot exist without cooperating with the state
t. a former lolbertarian
He is kinda right, Hungarian works a little bit like mathematics. Unfortunately it's very hard, if I'm correct they even have something like separate verb inflections for transitive and intransitive verbs.
Fuck you Hans. --And --
Lot of power is concentrated in hands of Fidesz-affiliated oligarchs, yes.
Since some our largest business are are German-owned car factories plus banks in various shareholder hands, the economy isnt exactly dominated by them, but theres some sketchy stuff going on.
For example we are building a new big national stadion, and one of the governements spokeperson casually said "lol its budget will double". Or see that Budapest will host this years aquatic sport WC, and yet again its budget pretty much double over time, though I know such stuff are common in any major project anywhere in the world.
Most notably the mayor of Orbáns home village become on the richest man in Hungary under the last years and his construction company logo is super ubiqutous everywhere in Budapest.
