If the USA dissolved and all 50 states formed their own sovereign nations, realistically, what would happen to California?

Water would be a major problem. Oregon would get rich selling water to California.

The economic shock of the federal government pulling out all of their military and civil employees alone would crash them. Loads of military bases in California, with big sprawling towns adjacent that depend on them.

That's not even getting into other factors, like how the port in San Diego (a HUGE tax revenue source for the state) would become much less profitable because it's no longer a point of entry to the other contiguous 47 states.

Most water in SoCal is from AZ, so that goes and most power is from NV, so that goes. It will decay, like is is now, but much, much faster. Also, immigrants will fucking flood it and depress the labor market. It will go down fast and harder than a meteorite hitting the sun.
