is the american libertarian party close to hoppe's ideas? is it even libertarian? are there any good libertarian politicians outside rand/ron paul?
Julian Reyes
The American libertarian party is pointless just like all third parties in the US. Anybody who really wants lower taxes votes Republican because of the Norquist pledge.
Juan Brown
As far as I know the LP is the party of the failed republicans.
They try to advocate smaller government while trying to appeal to progressive young people. Hence their terrible results every election.
The only reason why they were even allowed into mainstream media the last election was because the establishment was this desperate to divide all the possible Trump voters as much as they could.
o shit we got two threads up. whateves i'll post here.

For starters you would do much better with Mises Institute videos in youtube and other high quality yet easily absorbed information media. The books should always come later, except maybe for the shortest ones like Anatomy of the State.

Both shitty but in different ways. Monarchy is like a right wing dictatorship but working better, democracy is Communism lite.
If you ask because you're starting Democracy by Hoppe, wait until you've gotten to the end. The whole Monachy vs Democracy thing is just a thought exercise to make you think more logically and erode current day prejudices.

True, the problem though is that people don't realize what is the reason why industries are leaving in the first place.
In the end there are no arguments for protectionism that don't stem out of ignorance. It's just a fact. As a matter of fact, if you look up the history of the libertarian movement the creation of the LP was its nail in the coffin.
Justin Baker
Ok thank you, and you guessed it correctly, reading Hoppes book
>True, the problem though is that people don't realize what is the reason why industries are leaving in the first place. >In the end there are no arguments for protectionism that don't stem out of ignorance. It's just a fact.
If we had no central bank and we had DEFLATION we would be seeing a lot more of the benefits of free trade. The first country to end their central bank will have super high living standards because the rest of the world will be sending this country all of their products and services dirt cheap. Massive service sector industries would pop up for people in this country to consume the products from the rest of the world.

>The first country to end their central bank will have super high living standards because... Objection: The first country to end their central bank will be invaded by the US army and its population will be mercilessly massacrated until a puppet democracy is instored and ints central bank is working again.
Ending central banks is truly a dream, but this is something that won't happen as long as American military supremacy still exists. It's interesting but I don't see it having any future. Though I would love seeing a Europe of hundreds of little micronations, and this is something I believe that will happen during our lifetimes.
>first country to end their central bank will be invaded by the US army and its population will be mercilessly massacrated until a puppet democracy is instored and ints central bank is working again. True.
But people have to realize what a massive benefit getting rid of central banks would do for humanity. People are so enslaved. Leftists literally believe central banks are great and without them the economy would collapse and we'd have horrible depressions.

ok educate me on this one : 1- in a ancap society how it would be possible to prevent cartels, monopolys and other shit like that ?
2- if a person is born unable to work, is he doomed ?
3- roads, i know this seems like a meme. lets say companies create roads, will they hold the right over those roads? impeding the competition to use them ?
those are my doubts, please clarify them to me guys.

>if a person is born unable to work, is he doomed? Not nessesarily, but he does need charity. Our ideal system wont "save" him, people will.
Daniel Rivera
>But people have to realize what a massive benefit getting rid of central banks would do for humanity. Not necessarily so. People don't really need to realize anything for political change to happen. There's this common thought bias everyone has in Western countries that events in history happen because "the people wanted to", which is just a bogus identification of the people with their political systems.
What I'm trying to say that central banking will fail not because "the people" gets tired of it. Most people are fucking idiots and don't know what central banking even is. Central banking will fail because it simply does not work and there is a massive incentive for someone to find a way to replace it with something better.
Incentives, technology and other real world factors are what drive political change, not popular mood swings and the wishful thinking of elites. We are in one of those times in history in which the elites in charge are complete idiots without the slightest fucking idea what they are doing and with ridiculous pretensions like one world government and other retarded pipe dreams. It's a time of change.
Logan Hall

so you mean that monopolies in the free market are impossible to happen ? ok, what about cartels ? the biggest of all companies in the same sect join forces to make the game harder for the smaller ones. how can you solve this problem ?
Cameron Butler
I propose one explaining the "physical removal" thing to edgy fags that think this is some form of advocacy for violence.
William Hall
What I was trying to say is that it doesn't really matter.
Brayden Watson
i see so a possible solution is ONGs or some shit oriented as a profiteable source. im ok with that.
Aiden Robinson
>the biggest of all companies in the same sect join forces to make the game harder for the smaller ones. lmao all it takes is for one of these companies to break the cartel by lowering their prices and this company will take almost all of the market share away from the other companies, the temptation to do this is too great.
ALSO all it takes is for 1 company to pop up and fuck the cartel. It creates a HUGE juicy profit opportunity for any company to come along and provide lower prices, they would take ALL of the market share away from these large firms.
there are countless examples of these things happening in the 1800s.
Parker Perry

so trusts, cartels and monopolies are just possible because of the state and its intervention ? I mean, some of this movements are visible in "simulated" envyronments like bitcoin and altcoin trading sites. People often do "pump and dump" do manipulate prices and profit from the people that buy on the high prices. There is no government in there to make them stop. this is on a small scale, imagine what would happen in a large scale the ammount of misery such inorganic movements on the economy would produce.
Oliver Taylor
>democratic liberals funded north koreas nukes

>this is on a small scale, imagine what would happen in a large scale It literally only happens on a small scale because scams like this would get quickly rooted out in the market.

Pump and dump is a meme. Speculation actually stabilizes the price of a commodity (reduces its volatility).

I've actually noticed that these generals have been getting more and more popular lately than they have in the past. On the other hand, perhaps.
I want to talk about public school - specifically what could replace its function of (ostensibly) detecting cases of child abuse/neglect?
Private and distance learning options are voluntary, so nothing would prevent some nutcase from abusing their kids in seclusion. But any solution i can think of would be even more invasive than public schooling. Would we just count these fringe cases as acceptable losses, or is there anything that could be done in a hypothetical post-public society?
Levi Hall
Yeah, monopolies are possible ONLY due to state intervention.
Daily reminder, you're not a libertarian if you don't support building a space elevator and ending taxation with all the money we can save from selling energy from space-based solar arrays.

He was OK, not really right-wing though. He saved Chile from red plague, that's about it. His economic policies were moderate-right at best, because major piece of big business was still under government control, there was universal healthcare, minimum wage and shit.

They don't have the ability to borrow a few hundred billion dollars, and they don't have the military to protect it.
Contrary to what the ancaps say, states do have comparative advantages in some areas, and your capital stock will grow faster by building those projects than demanding "muh free market" when you can verify that the return on investment is lower.
Juan Stewart
I had a conversation with one of my "Christian" friends today, a lady who's a good 10 years older than me. She said she likes socialism because, well, she didn't really list any concrete reasons other than that she thinks there are some people who are too greedy.
Bitch needs to learn the ten commandments. What ever happened to "thou shalt not steal"? It's not wonder both of her children have stolen shit so many times, she says the idea of stealing repels her and she doesn't understand why anyone would do it, yet she supports mass stealing "Because some people are greedy". She thinks the bible speaks in support of socialism. It's disgusting. So many supposed Christians who don't even read the bible, and preach the opposite of that Jesus preached. Make no mistake, you cannot be a socialist AND be practicing a Christian. Fuck commies.
Michael Walker
>She thinks the bible speaks in support of socialism But it's completely the opposite. The Bible preaches to be humble and obey the higher ups, while socialism is about permanent revolution and freedom(according to socialists, ofc). Wtf, she has never read a book on socialism?
Elijah Kelly
>If space elevator was such a great idea private enterprise would already gotten its hands on it. bullshit
they CAN'T because of government controls and inflation. If the price of capital goods was cheap like it would be under a free market, a space elevator would be economically viable.
Austin Walker
Could you redpill me on Christianity as it pertains to libertarianism? I am also under the impression that Christ espouses some fairly Lefty ideas.
Connor Brown
Shuouldn't you just mention that those who are begging for the state handouts are actually the real greedy people who want to take the fruits of someone else's labor?
>TFW the CAPTCHA was roads

A lot of the new testament can be viewed as supporting socialism, actually. Jesus talks about clothing and feeding the poor, and the early Christians pooled resources. The big distinction imo is that charity is voluntary

Any Illinois anons here?
I've been thinking of trying to get a movement to elect a Libertarian candidate for governor in '18. I think it could be done easily just by running on a platform of anti-corruption; both parties have shown themselves to be unrepentant in their corruption and Illinois faces some of the highest taxes just to fund their graft.
Would appreciate any other Illinois anons showing interest.
Jacob Murphy
What do you guys think of Stefan Molyneux? He barely differs from Hoppe. >hates the state >redpilled on IQ >wants whites to have more kids >against migration >advocating for homogeneous countries Hoppe would never be faggot enough to shill for someone like Trump as much as Molyneux did (although the chance that Trump could have been good was there but he barely got anything done yet so Molyneux just wasted his energy anyway), but when it comes to the basics they are almost the same.
Cameron Collins
Your links didn't prove shit..
>Diseconomies of scale
Those with the resources to spend on finding a solution to a problem will be the benefactors of said solution
>Pareto-optimal
In a free market, no one is made "worse off" because all agreements are consensual. There are many cases where a consensual deal can be struck but one party is fiscally worse off for it, even if they do not realize it.
>Nash Equilibrium
You're assuming all parties will have equal resources and equal opportunities.
Christopher Ramirez
Well, yes, in the hypothetical case the economy wasn't as fucked as it is today (which most people don't even recognize) private enterprise would already have taken on it. This was kinda implicit in my post.
I even unironically believe that without a parasitical entity like the state we would already have (private) colonies in Mars.
