The military is ferociously political for officers. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. These goofs are trying to get in good with higher ranking officers who understand that political correctness has a role in the modern military. This wasn't done because they're sjw's. The people joining the military straight out of high-school are the same people who were raising on a diet of burgers for their bellies, and MLP and Pokemon for their eyes.

Today's soldier is better trained, more physically fit, and mentally hardier and smarter than at any point in history.
