I had only been considering the asteroid impact idea for the rapid breakup of the ice sheet, but this is possible too if there was an active seam underneath.

I've heard about an asteroid theory but I didn't quite buy it. The heat source would be very very limited, once that rock cools down the water will turn to ice so the heat would have to be massive to do it quickly enough before it cools. If it were that hot it would create a lot of steam which would become rain and not a cascade.

Anything that can generate that level of heat would come in with a huge impact force that would likely smash the shelf to pieces which would allow the water to run off again preventing a cascade. Also at that point the asteroid itself might be enough to wipe earth clean of life anyway.

That's pretty much where I am, I'm willing to accept a Rome-level civilization in the distant past without discounting possible further advancement in antiquity.

Would depend on how old they are, metals don't last long, if say an iteration of humanity that came prior to us was smart enough to not use plastics because they are the embodiment of death and toxic as all hell then we're realistically looking at metals and stone, anything else will be long gone.

Iron in salt water corrodes at a rate of 1mm per year so will quickly be lost at sea, the only metal that doesn't corrode is the currency of god itself gold, only golden artifacts would remain if anything from a time period 14k back.

The only thing that would last over many millennia is stonework, but stone doesn't lead itself to high tech. That having been said today we still build (occasionally) buildings out of stone that might very well be ruinous heaps in 10k years to be rediscovered. From their perspective very little other than maybe our plastic would remain. This could elude them to believe that we were no further along than bronze age.
