Christie calls for suspending regulation allowing airlines to overbook flights

>New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), a close ally of President Trump, is calling on the Transportation Department to “immediately suspend the federal regulation" allowing airlines to overbook flights amid outrage over United Airlines’ physical removal of a passenger from a packed plane.

>The letter said Christie is reviewing how New Jersey can curb this “abusive practice,” but it also calls on the White House to end the regulation, claiming that the federal government can deal with it “most immediately.”

>“I know the Trump administration wants to reform regulations to help the American people. This would be a great place to start,” the governor adds.

Do it

Or at least make the airlines up the price they offer to like 5 grand before they start executing gooks

Overbook? How the fuck is that possible? Do some flights have people just standing in the aisle because there's no more seats available?

1. UNITED CEO HAS PUBLICLY COME OUT AND APOGOLIZE FOR THIS UNACCAPETABLE BEHAVIOR
2. CHICAGO AIR OFFICIALS HAVE SHITCANNED ONE EMPLOYEE IN RELATION TO THIS EVENT
3. CHICAGO MAYOR INTENDS TO OPEN INVESTIGATION

AHhahahahahh

AND THE GUY BEING SMEARED BY UA ISN't EVEN THE GUY IN THE VIDEO

AHhahahah

UA DON GOOFED REAL HARD :)

That's what you get for not investing in trains because "muh planes".

America, not even once!

>Christie calls for suspending regulation allowing airlines to overbook flights
This is stupid.

The airlines simply need to let the last people who bought tickets know that theirs are the overbooks and they may not get their seats. That way at least the customer understands the risk and buys in to the deal voluntarily.

This.

yes
overbooking should be banned, fuck that shit

hope it goes through

fuck the airlines

>Overbook? How the fuck is that possible? Do some flights have people just standing in the aisle because there's no more seats available?

Seats are perishable inventory. If the plane takes off with an empty seat, that's lost revenue. However, selling the same seat twice is pure profit.

It used to be that the airline CEOs would guess at how many seats they could overbook. Now they have decades of computer data to zero in a very specific number each flight. Do they do that? Fuck no. The CEO still relies on whatever magic number for all legs.

Thing is overbooking isnt what did this, its that united decided they needed to fly crew and they didnt account for that. They should have paid another airline to fly their crew if they were so desperate.

It's very common for people not to show up for their flight.
Airlines use this fact to overbook, which means selling more seats than are actually on the plane.
Because of this you could view it in two ways: the overall price of the ticket drops for everyone or the airline can make more money.

They use statistics to determine the optimal overbook to no show ratio. Regulartions require them to pay people who get kicked off due to overbooking.

Not exactly sure but I think it's like 400% of ticket price or 1200$, whichever is less. Plus your next flight is free.

The system works fine and is pretty fair if you ask me, united just got a lot of bad press because of how poorly the security handled that specific case a couple days ago.

Calling to suspend overbooking as a practice is bad for EVERYONE.

seriously
first the fucking TSA agent feeling up a kid in a t-shirt and shorts
now this bullshit because the airlines are kikes trying to sell excess tickets
these cunts need to answer

And when tickets go up 10% across the board because planes fly with empty seats every trip?
What good regulation!

All these faggots talking about muh rail would be fucking crying buckets if their property was eminent domained to build it

>immediately suspend the federal regulation
was it ever in place to begin with?

>And when tickets go up 10% across the board because planes fly with empty seats every trip?
>What good regulation!
oh well, overbooking is a fucking joke, always has been. You faggots will suck corporate cock at every opportunity

Because airports take no area at all, right?

This. Now they're going to pay out the ass in a lawsuit, and millions worth of negative press.

Sup Forums has either really dumbed down recently or I used to be as retarded as you people

is calling people names while you ignore their argument the only thing you know how to do?

>people don't show up for the flight
>airline still receives the money for the ticket
>but how will we maximize profit goy
>purposefully overbook a flight to get more sheckles
>sometimes people will have to get kicked off the plane because of this fact
>don't worry they'll be compensated even though they may be severely inconvenienced
>also don't mind that while defending the free market we aren't giving the customer what they payed for

>And when tickets go up 10% across the board because planes fly with empty seats every trip?

HOW ABOUT people paying in advance GET A FUCKING DISCOUNT and then limit the amout of time where people can cancel for whole money.

Then you get paid AND can sell the same seat again if seomeone doesn't show up!!

well not really. most of the land would be taken away from farmers who don't give a shit about a passenger rail system.

>it's okay to swindle customers by selling something you don't have as long as it's done voluntarily

>All these faggots talking about muh rail would be fucking crying buckets if their property was eminent domained to build it
Most of the routes already exist - abandoned by the railways once trucking became big business. The rails could be largely rebuilt without taking a single acre of property from ordinary citizens. A few bike trails would suffer, that's all.

they don't usually get kicked off though. there's usually a compensation that makes someone willing to give up their seat. I'm a 21 year old college student and I wouldn't mind giving up my seat for $50 and another flight a few hours later.

They're a fucking airline, they should have got one of their salaried pilots to fly their staff in one of their small planes but it's cheaper to kick out a paying customer and "refund" them with coupons.

>Sup Forums has either really dumbed down recently or I used to be as retarded as you people
Reminder.

Trains suck. Literally commie bullshit.

Why should 'we' have to invest in trains, exactly? Shouldn't they be able to compete in a free market?

>pay for a service
>service might not be provided but there's a refund lol
It's at least a breach of consumer information that they can force you off your flight if they want.

Lawsuit for what?

It's really not. People need to learn to read the fine print. (((they))) put is there for (((reasons))),

YES
WE NEED THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO TELL PRIVATE BUSINESSES HOW TO RUN THEIR BUSINESS

GOOD GOYS

The point is no one should be forced to give up their seat to help a business's bottom line. I don't even care if the situation you proposed happens more often. The business made a deal and they should honor it no matter what their bullshit policy allows

$1200 thats a voucher for a plane ticket on the airline to be used in a limited time frame on select flights which are almost always garbage flying times

Disregarding the "free market" meme, this is why modern trains are better than airplanes:
>much less expensive
>begin and end your trip in a city center instead of some remote airport and then having to uber your way downtown
>less dead time in each end
>less security hassle
>much larger baggage allowance
>much larger passenger capacity
>more amenities
>bedrooms for overnights
>easier to travel with children
>scenic
>less affected by weather
>you don't have to shut down your electronics
>safer
>better food
>quieter
>better accessibility
>you can get off the train in an emergency
>toilets are larger
>border control can be done onboard
Stay mad, americuck.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster

Also, UA violated their own contract on this case. Also literally violated the NAP by allowing a passenger to become physically assaulted while in their custody

the overbooking profit is probably going to go up in smoke when they have to settle this guys lawsuit for 6 gorrillion

Kikes are constantly lobbying for deregulation though. Your post makes no sense.

That's the real catch. I'd have zero problems with the policy if it was cash. It (in theory) controls ticket costs but that voucher shit is awful.

If all those things were true. Trains would make profits instead of demanding government subsidies.

Truth is, trains are no faster than privately owned vehicles, yet fail to provide point-to-point service.

Trains are the finest example of institutionalized cost/benefit misalignment to satisfy a large demographic of fetishists. Yet another proof why democracy is ultimately a suicide cult.

>If all those things were true. Trains would make profits
Trains do everywhere else except in America because of the oil lobby.

All this will do is add to ticket prices

>trains are no faster than privately owned vehicles
You only think that because you're used to American trains that are late 19th century shit that goes at 40km/h tops.

Freight trains do make a profit here

A unlike a train a car can get you directly from point A to B

Pure kikery as the thread will tell you, somehow this is okay with reddit and nu-Sup Forums
Trains work in free markets, Japanese railways are mostly privately owned and operated
This is pretty close to what's actually done but kikes are too savage to adhere to contracts
You can't give freedom to that kind of people, they will always abuse it
They already lost 800 million in market value, thanks to this gook investors are more aware of the nigger management they have
Breach of contract, assault and possibly muh feels

Based Finn

1)Overbooking is good
2)United Airlines is based
3)Chink deserved it
Whoever disagrees is a cuck

>Pure kikery as the thread will tell you, somehow this is okay with reddit and nu-Sup Forums
Its the free market
If people demand no overbooking start your own airline and make a killing
>Trains work in free markets, Japanese railways are mostly privately owned and operated
They work in places that are extremely dense
>Breach of contract, assault and possibly muh feels
Once they told him to leave the police had every right to kick him of probably fucking up whatever civil case he had

^this. But using the law to extract maximum profit is a great value-add by (((THEM))). See IRS as prime example.

>start your own airline
>implying there isn't a monopoly that prevents this
>also the startup money being an insane amount of money

people would rather have the ability to cancel without massive penalties than not have to worry about the remote possibility of being bumped
Its called the free market

>>implying there isn't a monopoly that prevents this
How? Who is the monopoly airline?
>>also the startup money being an insane amount of money
If people are demanding no overbooking you should have a good business model and be able to raise enough money

>Calling to suspend overbooking as a practice is bad for EVERYONE.

How so?
It seems like it would only be bad for the airline. There is a zero chance of you getting cucked by overbook. Only issue I see is maybe not getting a flight because a no show fucked you over.
But I would rather be unable to buy a ticket instead of buying one then getting to sleep in a fucking airport.

This fat fuck is arguing for making airline travel more expensive and possibly destroying the industry altogether.

Sorry oligopoly. Does that help?

Couldn't their employees stand upright? I've never been on a plane but surely it's not unstable enough for a person to stand.

And how do they prevent new airlines from starting up?

>Its the free market
Free market where airlines literally breach their contracts just because they want? Sure senpai
>If people demand no overbooking start your own airline and make a killing
Literally a monopoly, and a free market can't work if people violate the NAP
>They work in places that are extremely dense
Nice way to change the goalposts
>Once they told him to leave the police had every right to kick him of probably fucking up whatever civil case he had
No, they didn't, they had no right to ask him to leave
If they didn't allow him to board they would had, this has been discussed on a lot of threads already

>However, selling the same seat twice is pure profit.
Is it worth it, really? Putting profit over quality, putting profit over humanity or morals. I don't think so. But then again, I'm 3rd world tier poor.

uhm. What? Is this b8?

Because airlines operate on tight margins. If they don't overbook, whatever revenue they lose has to be passed on to the consumer, meaning higher fares. The system isn't perfect, but it makes travel affordable and profitable, which is a fair compromise.

All this is going to lead to is an increase of already overly inflated ticket prices. Enjoying paying $700 to fly one way domestic coach.

As long as there's a road connecting A to B, yes.

>Free market where airlines literally breach their contracts just because they want? Sure senpai
people continue to book on airlines that overbook
>Literally a monopoly
You are literally retarded
>Nice way to change the goalposts
I am not the one who made the original claim
>No, they didn't, they had no right to ask him to leave
Yes they did
They can kick you off for any reason they want
If you have a problem with that you can dispute in in civil court

>tight margins
>the global airline industry to make a net profit in 2017 of $29.8 billion

Do you even google?

iata.org/pressroom/pr/Pages/2016-12-08-01.aspx

The train in america sucks balls. Amtrak is at the whim of other trains currently. They ride on the same tracks as the frieght trains and the freight has right of way. It makes for random departure and arrival times which makes travelling by train a novelty as opposed to airplanes or bus.

It allows them to sell cheaper tickets and have better cancellation policies
I am sorry I forgot you live in a third world country

Or how about they stop being greedy hungry cunts and upgrade their systems to properly know when too many tickets have been purchased.

>Trains do everywhere else except in America because of the oil lobby.

Not in Brazil, that's for sure.

Do you see new airlines that aren't started by billiinaires? No you don't. That's because it is almost impossible to comply with government regulations which is besides the point. Back to the point of it being anti-free market to not give something someone payed for.

Roads don't build themselves, retard.

Damn, I knew American education was shit, but not this much!

>JK wasn't an oil lobby puppet
Learn your own history, retard.

> If they don't overbook, whatever revenue they lose has to be passed on to the consumer, meaning higher fares.
>paying more so airline kikes won't be weasels

I prefer this to
>save money but you get to roll the dice in being cucks

Also, explain this

Based Christie at it again. Fuck those kike airlines and their "oh but you agreed to let us fuck you in the ass" technicality bullshit. The entire industry does nothing but cut corners and do the bare minimum; everything from rickety skybuses to literal nigger security. The whole shitshow of flying is a giant multi-billion *coughgoverntmentcough* scam - hope that chink settles for at least a hundred grand.

In large measure, U.S. legacy airlines actually were created by federal largesse, particularly the Contract Air Mail Act of 1925, which provided agreements and subsidies that pioneered what would eventually become the carriers’ domestic route maps. As the Smithsonian noted, the U.S. industry in the 1920s “depends for its existence almost wholly upon orders placed by Government services.”

>t. US citizens pay even when they never fly

I would rather pay more to insure I didn't get fucked over.
And who needs cancellation policies? Plan ahead and don't be retarded.

UNITED AIRLINES A GUD BOY DEY DINDU NUFFIN

>Do you see new airlines that aren't started by billiinaires?
Frontier
>Back to the point of it being anti-free market to not give something someone payed for.
If you think they violated the terms of your ticket then you dispute it in civil court
You dont throw a temper tantrum in the middle of the plane

>Roads don't build themselves, retard.
Where did I say they did?

fucking holy shit faggot what the fucking fuck that bullshit you spout fucking lame as hell fucking shit head. Wtf man. Go cry in a river fuck nigglet cunt grabbing piece of shit.

Suspending overbooking means a huge increase in the price of tickets fucking huge faggot. Since airlines wont be able to rely on that overbooking history shit anymore they will have to increase the price of tickets so that their revenues will not drop as much because people do not show up for flights a shit ton.

Where are your proofs, Mr. Tinfoil?

Brazil is too large for passenger rail transport.

Ok then if enough people think like you then an airline will start marketing that they dont overbook and be able to charge more

Stop acting like "muh free market" is the highest and most sacrosanct tenet of the world. There are, believe it or not, things above it.

>You dont throw a temper tantrum in the middle of the plane

How do you expect to get the fat jew settlement without that?

How is this not fraud?

>all of the statism loving bootlickers ITT approving some thug cops breaking a chink's nose

No. The US Gubbmint will continue the gibbs.

Remember "too big to fail"?

Retard, looks like you didn't read the thread and understand the concept. Airlines purposely overbook because statistically, some people will buy tickets and not show up, thus leaving empty seats. Armed with this knowledge, airlines will sell more tickets then there are seats in order to jew more profit. It works most of the time, and when it doesn't, they have to kick someone off and reimburse them. It's like a casino bet that they usually always win, because the odds favor the house.

> 4.1% net profit margin
That's a very tight margin. I don't know why they even stay in business, considering the risk and operating costs. GLOBAL profit of 29.8 billion. That's shit. There are S&P 100 companies that make that much.

>come to Brazil
Only if there's lots of tranny cock to gargle.

>Brazil is too large for rail

If you dont like an airline then dont fly with them
If he had a case he probably fucked it because now they can say they threw him off for being disruptive
because its in your contract

Empty seats that are already paid for? So you advocate double-profit? I can't figure if this is some pseudo-psyop where you are concern trolling for (((THEM))) or just retarded.

If the airline sells 130 seats and no one shows, the airline did not lose money.

G-Guys... I'm scared to ride an (((American))) airline now.

>Not in Brazil, that's for sure.
Nothing works in Brazil, anão.

Yes, and I would rather pay $20 for an umbrella that lasts me months vs a $5 one that falls apart in a week.

There is no point in paying less if you can just be bumped at will. Reimbursement doesn't help you when you've missed a job interview, funeral, event, or anything of the like.

Like shit, the fucking doctor is a good example. His time is far more valuable than fucking around with a voucher. A voucher which by the way is a steaming pile of garbage.

>implying we shouldn't gas all chinks

Very cheap and fast way to transport materials and products but shitty way to travel if it takes over one day to reach your destination

>Its called the free market
>sell people a service and pocket the cash without actually providing the service
Pretty sure that's not what free market means.

>suspending regulation allowing airlines to overbook flights
This is bullshit and everybody who has only a tiny bit of knowledge of the airline business knows it.
