Enlightenment French thinkers were Deists, not Atheists. One could argue that they hated Christianity but then you can also say that it was normal reaction to the Catholic Church and the Proddies doing their dick contest over who were the most radical.
Yes, but most existentialists are not Christian, and the leap of faith is just the selective dropping of philosophy when it gets too hard.
I think the Buddhists wanting to stop being reborn is way more existential and edgy than the Christians, since it explicitly frames life as a problem to be overcome, but yeah, existentialism might not have become as popular if Europe wasn't Christianized.
