Is there a point in making speeches at UN? I mean literally no one listens and the decisions are always political not logical.
Logan Perry
Probably not much. Follow instructions from the Government. I'm exempt from military duty due to carrot allergy (yes, I know) so I guess life just goes on for the most part
Isaac Wood

so Lavrov proposed a bilateral examining of air base and evidence to Tillerson, but vetoed a multilateral UN investigation?
Mason Jenkins
is there video of it?
Lucas Taylor
Wait, why do Russia and Bolivia oppose an investigation? Even Head Prof. Dr. Burger from MIT said it obviously didn't happen, so why not let them investigate (but make sure there's no trickery)?
Carter Carter
RU >Inform UNSC that in course of negotiations today with Lavrov and Tillerson we suggested US side a joint communication to OPCW secretariat and ask him to put together independent intl mission, where allegedly CW was used, and to visit airbase. TIllerson is considering this. On 13Apr there will be meeting of OPCW in Hague, where whole gamma will be discussed. Putting vote today has no useful purpose.
Dylan Evans
>vetoed an American investigation with lots of bells and whistles?
Gavin Brooks
not yet or not to my knowldege
Grayson Sanchez
>make sure there is no trickery that's the point. we need a third party to investigate. not mr. Schlomo Shekelstein from Israel.
Wyatt Fisher
>Resolution also called for #Syria to provide flight plans
China >Deeply goncerned, formally oposes use of CW. China is aware the Syria has written to director general of OPCW directing him to carry out international team for investigation. China seeks OPCW to arrive at a conclusion of solid facts that can bring perpetrators to justice. In hope that UNSC can speak with one voice, working tirelessly that may enjoy unanimous support from all council members, commends e10 (non permanent members) for their support in their compromise draft. We regret their failure. We regret the decision to put through one resolution over another... The joint resolution contains language that condemns CW and calls for investigation, language that china supports. Nevertheless, some elements might well have been amended to secure consensus. Hence, we abstained.
Adam Smith
What's the UN resolution being discussed anyways? Can I see a draft?
Asher Miller
The UN Investigation proposal that got vetoed was one-sided as fuck for NATO
Everyone that backs Assad in Syria has no morals. The Assad family has been in power for 40+ years (dictators), and cracks down on protests against his abuses of power with violence. Assad must go before any solution can be reached. Until then, the proxy war continues, which will continue to drain Russian coffers. Remember, the "coalition" countries are vastly more wealthy than the Axis of Evil countries (Russia, Syria, Iran, etc) - the coalition has control over 50%+ of Syria's borders, can easily transport weapons and fighters into Syria, isn't spending much money on proxies, and will continue to stoke this civil war until a political solution is reached. No military power will win this conflict, because 1) the coalition isn't going to put boots on the ground to decisively win (and provoke Russia at the same time), and 2) the Axis of Evil countries are not powerful enough to win the war against rebel groups & Western/Sunni proxy forces.
When Russia has lost enough money over this situation (apparently not yet), they'll start agreeing to come to the table. It will be quiet and behind the scene to save face, and the West will be OK with that. The political solution at the end of this is going to remove Assad, allow Alawites to stay in power, and allow autonomous governance regions within Syria (without breaking up the existing borders). The West will maintain its positions of strength by supporting autonomous Kurdish regions in Iraq and Syria, Sunni countries will support other autonomous regions for the "rebel" factions, Russia will maintain its position of strength with existing military bases and continued relations with the ruling Alawites, Iran will be removed to appease Israel, and Assad will either take refuge in Russia/Iran or be tried and hanged.
