All I know is that if you are okay with living in a town of 100 people, and literally nothing else for miles, you can find cheap housing (surprisingly a lot of the little towns in north eastern Ontario are white french people and not native. North western Ontario is mostly native outside of big cities)... That said, buying anything other than basic commodities (rice, grain, water, etc) will cost you an arm and a leg.

I don't disbelieve it. Many Canadians are in the dark about the grim reality until it is too late... Then they disappear off the grid into their into despair. Look at the Walmarts and parking places in BC... There are trailers and campers everywhere. In my city there are a MINIMUM of 5 a night all year long... Cops constantly doing their daily run of telling people to leave despite the parking lot never ever being fully filled.

First actual house is 10k. I've driven through the that town and it's actually pretty nice (50k people if I remember correct, and country af culturally)... That said, I can't speak to it's economy. For all I know its worse than here in thunder bay, and you're lucky to make 15 dollars an hour in this town ($20+ is a kings wage here, or a government worker).

I know, in my desperation I have looked everywhere for any cheap place. There is no place in BC with homes at 30k without a catch. Or land that's not in an EXTREMELY terrible area (extremely cold/having to drive 20KM for the nearest store)
