Star Trek Discussion

Why do so many Sup Forums users enjoy Star Trek? Isn't it a very liberal and left leaning show?

Isn't the Federation basically Communist?

>the villain is a thinly veiled parody of hardcore communism

star trek is aryan in spirit.

Bump

Because it's light sci-fi that actually deals mostly with the political implications of deep space travel, instead of pew pew laser blasters

>veiled parody of hardcore communism
In the cold war the villain in usa was portrayed as comunist
REALLY NIGGA!!!

I don't agree. I think Star Trek deals a lot with its technology as well and how it works and how it is used.

>First Trek to star a female captain
>They immediately get so lost, it takes an entire series to find home again

>86-94
>cold war

the Federation is a post-scarcity economy, therefore capitalism and communist concepts doesn't apply

Star Trek is autism paradise, and Sup Forums doesn't like it.

1989 is the fall of the wall

I thought it was interesting they had a holodeck episode that was basically about the VR-waifu problem we potentially face today.

Nah, the technology in Star Trek is always a crutch for the writers. Every time they need a deus ex machina they just make up a new technology.

I like Voyager. I grew up playing the Elite Force game, which was basically a Quake clone. That multiplayer was comfy as fuck.

>mfw electrocuting 5 people at once with an arc welder

Their technology makes capitalism largely impossible. Imagine the disaster of trying to force DRM into replicators.

Then what type of system is it then?

This.

All that matters (no pun intended) is matter and anti-matter. Matter is in abundant supply throughout the universe and anti-matter is supposedly easy to make. The only material they seem to have issues with is dilithium, and even then they've found out ways to make it go forever with recrystalization.

The appeal to Star Trek is that TOS, TNG and DS9 tend to be more about philosophy and humanity. Also, very few of the characters are degenerate.

The Federation is 100% fascist
this was already discussed to death in 70s

To add to this I remember way way back seeing an interview with one of the creative directors for DS9, who expressed the same thing (technology being used as a crutch for plot manipulation) and that's why DS9 has a number of episodes where malfunctioning technology becomes the enemy.

> Food 'magically' appears, and is plentiful.
> Everyone 'works' for the good of (((The Federation)))
> Emerging societies are portrayed as war mongers and space-niggers
> Top-Notch FREE healthcare
> Free Education (muh starfleets)
> Civilized federation planets are literal utopias
> Free Energy, everywhere.

Yeah, lets not pretend that Star Trek was anything but socialist propaganda. Kirk might be the only thing about that show that's at least a little red-pilled. And even then he still worked for The Federation

I think the replicator is probably overblown by the fans. The plans for the ship does have decks dedicated to replication matter (suspiciously right below the "organic waste processing")

and it is implied that there is some kind of rationing, that they even bet in poke, it's not an unlimited source of food or other materials

and you'd have to wonder how much power does it actually use. on a starship with a running antimatter reactor power wouldn't be a problem but in other cases it could be impractical, especially compared to other means of manufacture

the thing is we basically don't really know much about how life outside of a starship or starbase is in trek. the colonies we do see are mostly primitive startups with not much in the way of amenities

The economic system is never explained. The writers always avoid it.

Thermoeconomics. Is a concept developed by Frederick Soddy in the 30s

>elimination of (((currency)))
>the jews cannot jew anymore because everyone can replicate everything they need

Explain to me how this is a bad thing?

And they had some mighty fine wars which had a eugenic effect, this enplanes why nog looking people are able to function at a high level.

Let us not forget that that the Strar-Trek universe is not a multicultural hellhole. Each planet has an unique culture and when different cultures meet they have very strict protocols to get along. Withing in the rules of the federation a Federation Starship captain is god, this explains why Picard allowed Worf and Ro to wear their equivalents of burka`s.

What is interesting about Worf is that he is always going on about wanting to die in battle and he always wants to fuck some shit up, except that one time when he was serving on his brothers ship during the civil war which saw Gowron become the head Klingon. I think that Worf knows that he won`t be allowed to die in battle or fuck some shit up while he serves under Picard. I think that Worf is like that one friend who talk a big game but when it comes down to it he doesn`t want to die.

star trek is for man babies

grow up kids

yeah worf was always portrayed as being "weakened by the federation" compared to native klingons

the antimatter thing is Trek's biggest fuckup. Antimatter is not easy to make, or contain. In fact in order to create antimatter you must also create an equal amount of normal matter. This satisfies the law of conservation. So the minimum energy investment to create antimatter is the mass-energy you get from annihilating the same amount of antimatter. It's a zero sum game right out of the gate. Then you have to contain it which requires more energy.

The only place where antimatter really becomes useful is for creating small amounts of gamma radiation. (i.e. medical imaging) where certain radioisotopes emit positrons as a step in their decay process. (PET scans). The anti proton game is just a scientific dick wagging contest between universities.

I find Stargate better.

yeah, technology has reach a point where our planet is such a small place that culture is mostly uniform (mostly around anglo-saxon culture). Picard is best example of that.

HFY tier garbage
ruined a great movie too

Boy we sure are stuck in this predicament..

Hey Carter, why don't you just Deus Ex Machina every problem ever within the span of 10 minutes?

Thanks, Carter!

picard is full on franco-nationalist, he just hides his powerlevel

>OH NO THEY ARE FIRING AN INTERGALLACTIC MEGA BOMB AT US.
>*close gate*
WEW problem solved.
E
W

Its because of all the niggers being segregated in the Klingon empire that makes star trek so awesome.
Ow and there are still whites left in that future

>Isn't the Federation basically Communist?

it's a monarchy

Fuck you Hans, nobody gives a shit about your retarded opinion you sausage eating, jew gassing, beer drinking, World War creating, Nazi loving, Poland Invading, Sub-human savage

...

this thread is full of herberts

Have you seen his latests work, he has a mixed race kid in that show.
Has some okay moment shit show overal

You can enjoy something without enjoying its political leanings.
Many liberals enjoy Starship Troopers, even the original book before it got kiked.

Kirk finds perfect communist societies and destroys them.

The people of Vaal, the Yangs and the Comms, the robots on the Mudd planet...

Also
>Federation is X
The Federation is full on North Korea. Nearly all of the humans are part of the unseen underclass. They are prevented from leaving the federation because how the fuck do you get a space ship when the distribution of such resources is controlled by the state? But look at all these happy Starfleet officers. This is what it's like for everyone, I swear.

picard is not a real person
patrick stewart is an actor

this dude gets it.

the federation is a post-scarcity fascist space state.

>perfect
>communist
>societies

fuck off you filthy retard

Not really.
For the federation energy is so plentiful they don't have much to fight over. Everyone basically has access to a replicator.
The struggle for basic needs is over.
For the federation...

>vulcan overclass controls the fed from the shadows
>let a bunch of mentally ill humans be admirals so they'll waste their time on pointless squabbles

isn't that just techno-communism?

He was french only by name. It's stated that by the 24th century the french language is dead,

That's the one thing DS9 did a service for with the plot development (after destroying everything TNG did with the Klingons of course) was there little plot arc about the power struggle at the top of the federation between the diplomatic aspect and the military aspect with Starfleet.

Something you see in a lot of fascist states.

Because it's usually well written and has enjoyable characters to explore.

Friendly reminder that Cardassia is basically the Sup Forums space empire.

Fucking Star Trek? Really? Star Trek? Why don't you take that shit over to Sup Forums. Grown ups are trying to discuss. This is Sup Forums. What are you trying to slide?

Never seen it. Fiction shows are degenerate.

but he still enjoys french cuisine, french history, french philosophy and has golden childhood memories of the french countryside, and yes he even has a nostalgic attachment to the dead french language, which he learned to be fluent in

>everything I don't like is a slide thread.
>A
>FUCKING
>BURGER
Day of the grill when?

No need for communal living.
I don't have to kick up my replications to anyone.
Just nothing to fight over, not cooperation by force or oversight.
Humans being humans go to space to find the violence and adventure no longer available on earth.

>humans go to space
Nope.
I've looked into this. In the Canon the human population is somewhere between 9 and 10 billion. Most of whom live on Earth.

Most humans don't get to travel in space. And most of the humans off of earth are grounded on colonies on other planets. Space travel is a rare privilege for humans.

Then how come sulu was played by a gay one time and they turned the character gay in perpetuity.

I was more so talking about the humans who join Star fleet... not all humans packing their shit and heading into space.

starships like the enterprise D can field a crew of thousands, some of which are just the family members of more important crew

you don't need a starfleet education to be a mook, and they probably cycle their crews every few years, if someone really wants to go to space they probably can with relative ease

But it's not because they choose not to. It's because the federation are a bunch of fascists. Only people who bow down to their philosophy are allowed out of their prison. And sure, a post-scarcity prison seems comfy. but Wouldn't that kill you? Knowing that there is this whole galaxy out there that you could be exploring but because you refuse to take up arms and spread the word of Space-Juche you are stuck on the ground somewhere sucking hamburgers out of a replicator and reading federation-approved ebooks?

I remember the days when Australians were considered the top shitposters. But you. You fucking leafs should be removed on sight. Your Chinese colony SJW of a nation is finished, a fucking LEAF for a flag, wow. Embarrassing.

My point is that the human culture is mostly unified around anglo-saxon one by that time. French is as relevant as the roman culture is today

kekd so much at that episode
>tfw they kicked him off the ship at the end of the episode

And you can only go to federation approved destinations. and again. 10 billion people.
Vs. "crew of thousands" so even if there are thousands of ships that still makes space faring a privilege of the 1% .

>t. burger post

>Sup Forums
>liking star trek

The only Sup Forums approved sci-fi setting is Warhammer 40k.

What specifically do you base this take on?
Personally, Star Trek leads me to believe a life in space is fucking awful.

Andromeda was the best. Literally was America world police in space.

the australian shitposter meme was always just a shitpost in itself

the real shitposters have always been americans, there's a reason weekday "nighttime" Sup Forums is always better

>literally on the brink of WW3
>hey guys lets talk about star trek

sage

>can't be gay in a post scarcity fascist space state

???

Gayness is only anti-state if the state denies it.

>Kathyrn "Kill them all" Janeway
That's true, but she was still a badass.

...

Apparently you were born after the Cold War.

you're thinking of /r/thedonald

best fictional future ever

He stayed and became a god for a short period. Later he left and helped the Voyager get home.

in ST it is life in general that is fucking awful.

every need is taken care of. a planet of NEETs. fucking unbearable.

gimme a chance a cold death on the edge of space and some green poon tang.

ON THE BOUNCE

>space-niggers

The best thing about this book is how butthurt people get over it.

the main character is a Filipino.

hope you actually read it.

It's all right there, in the space between the lines, clear as day.
>Federation controls resource distribution. (So if you want off this rock it's through the federation)
>No currency is given even to Starfleet officers that would benefit them in trade with a non federation affiliated species unless it is required as part of some covert operation.

Thus leaving the federation is nearly impossible. All of the humans who have left the federation live by the principals of another culture. None of them seek to bring any part of the federation with them.

Why? Because the federation fucking sucks.

...

>Isn't the Federation basically Communist?

No.

That's something communists say as propaganda to make their shitty, little ideology seem kind of comfy. The Federation is OBVIOUSLY an individualist, Western, post-scarcity society. It's so goddamn obvious that I'm getting kinda pissed having to constantly explain that it's not communism because communism is so fucking terrible that even convinced communists have to point to a fucking science fiction show with technology so advanced that it's basically magic instead of to real life as an example of their ideology.

Communism is totalitarian. That's the #1 feature of communism. And given that the Federation doesn't toss your ass into a space prison camp for saying that the Federation is wrong and should change, I don't think they're totalitarian. Multiple episodes emphasise how the Federation is based on personal freedom to the point where the people in it don't even THINK about intruding on the privacy of others. And when Barclay has a jack-off program about Deanna Troi, they're worried about his mental health, and not about the slight to the crew. As they shouldn't be, because no harm was done.

Pick ANY Trek episode, and you'll find stuff that the Federation allows that SJW's would toss you into jail for.

Another thing: The Federation is monocultural. Again and again the point is made that EVERYONE is onboard with it, and only once in a while you get someone like Worf, who's an obvious outsider and shares many of his problems with modern day 2nd generation immigrants. Except the Federation isn't carting in Klingons by the shipload.

Maybe commies think their society will be like the Federation. But even the one book I know that directly supports that idea (Hard to be a God) still manages to be criticism of communism. The Federation does not even come close to the idealism espoused by communists, except "lel no more money". But that's like saying barter societies were communist too.

does it kill you right now? no?

roddenberry was a military man, and star trek is basically a documentary.

Seconded.
Also who's digging The Expanse

are you sure this isn't fascism?

>starfleet totally isn't military, ignore them blowing up planets
>magic food dispenser is wonder of science that aids space travel, but organically grown "real food" is special and better
>uniforms
>everyone working to better themselves and their government
>badass uniforms
>a bunch of the actors are faggots but also haven't had a real job since, almost like how in fascism everyone has a purpose, even the fags can be useful.

I get it's close to communism, but we could claim it as fascist to really piss off libtards AND spread the good word of bundled sticks.

I still find i t odd how the dogs never encountered a bug before the invasion of bug world. You would think that they would test that shit.
Section 31 sounds like fun though.

Gene Roddenberry didnt include muslims in star trek is he /ourguy/?

FIDF GO
REEEEE

>And given that the Federation doesn't toss your ass into a space prison camp for saying that the Federation is wrong and should change

you never watched the fucking show.

stop posting

>the main character is a Filipino

The main character ethnicity wasn't the point of the book

G-Rod assumed the future would be agnostic or loosely mytho-religious at best.

>wagecuck triggered by NEET utopia of self-actualization

Oh really?

Name the episode, you Bajoran piece of shit. I bet my left nut that you can't.

>no semitic looking people in star trek whatsoever

>middle east was wiped out in trek ww3

>the entire concept of the fucking Maquis
