I remember years ago when some kid fucked around repeatedly in Singapore getting slaps on the wrist until he messed up a construction yard and finally got sentenced to a caning that Bill Clinton even tried intervening on the kid's behalf.
The reasons we wouldn't intervene here is because North Korea is not an ally, it's against the law to even go to North Korea, and so intervening would mean likely having to give some tit for tat with an enemy country that despises us to the core.
There is no good way to intervene and the fact he broke American law to go there makes it all the worse.
