Critical Theory is the philosophical study of systems of oppression. The supposed goal was to study the things (persons, groups, ideas, constructs, etc.) that enslaved people (physically, mentally, or emotionally) and set them free. Critical Theory has it's origins in the Frankfurt school in the 1930s, which was the Institute for Social Research at Goethe University Frankfurt.
