I found this knife awhile ago, i figured it was either polish cause of the eagle or maybe German. But can anyone confirm what this is from? Pic related
What is this handle from?

Imperial eagle and Julius Caesar. Roman. If it's authentic, it's probably worth some good money.
Wait... where and how did you find it? This might get interesting...
yeah that's cast molded pot metal. it ain't worth anything.
t. curation and antiquities specialist
I dug it up in my backyard, it was in California.
What the fuck was Caesar doing in California? Was this before or after he took Gaul?
Have it tested at a pawn shop to find out if it's made of gold. If it's not then it isn't old if it looks that nice.
Maybe looking for a route to Britian and got... lost
If that's real and true i would start digging some more buddy. Get it tested to see if its gold.
There are circulating a few very interesting theories about how America was discovered long before Columbus first set foot on the continent. The story goes that the international banking cartel in venice had possesion of secret cartography and that they secretly shipped huge amounts of gold to Europe. There are also some interesting connections between Venice and Scotland (Templar Knights).
Yeah I've heard a few of those theories before but I think its safe to say inbetween fighting in Gaul and then his own people, Caesar didn't take a vacation in California.
buttplug from 12th century japan
It was probably traded East to China and then carried by an expedition force as a captains heirloom to bless the land.
Or maybe it was held by some old goldminer who hid his loot and this was among his valuables.
It could also be that some esoteric order made contact with the new world or something and hid some valuables (gold, Jewels, obviously relics like OP's pic would be included)
We're talking about a hidden soceity here that transfered from Rome to Venice. If they made voyages to the new world, it would be possible to fnd such stuff.
If OP is legit, this could be major happening. If OP isnt larping he should contact a researcher named Joseph P Farrel - the guy is heavily into this stuff and wrote several books about it.
>California
Could be remains of a prop from an old movie.
>It could also be that some esoteric order made contact with the new world or something and hid some valuables (gold, Jewels, obviously relics like OP's pic would be included)
This.
Any Roman expedition to go across the sea would not have returned. Their ships would've been to battered to reuse and the trees in the Americas are not ideal for shipbuilding like in Europe. There might have been a Roman expedition to travel round the world. Common pleb myth is classical men thoughts the world was flat. They did not, Eratosthenes proved it was round in Egypt with his obelisk experiment.
Whatever it might be, OP should get it tested. If its real contact Joseph P Farrel.
Interesting listen for all those who are interesed:
Ornamental of course, i doubt the romans made it, but thats obviously what they were going for
It probably just belonged to the previous owner of the house
Interesting. I'm definitely hanging around this thread then.
Any confirmation on what it actually is yet though? It being a Roman Imperial eagle seems a bit far fetched. I know a bit about Roman history and the loss of an Imperial Eagle could tear apart an entire Legion of men. There are something like 7 that are still undiscovered and/or destroyed in the world, that were lost in battle thousands of years ago.
It does seem far fetched for one to turn up in a backyard in California though. It does look Roman though.
Fake and Gay.
lol its cast iron, i can see the cheap brass paint chipping off near where the blade is supposed to go. its one of those little cuck ceremonial swords from those religious groups like knights of colombus or free mason larpers
Northern Cal, not the hollywood part at all
Looks Portugese as fuck.
To elaborate further. The Romans would have thought they were in Parthia or the Steppe upon Arriving at the great plains. Then possibly mistaking the Rockies for the Carpathian mountains. However upon finding that the Indians of the Americas were not the Indians of India nor the Chinese, they would've continued on too the sea (which they would have thought was the Aral sea). Possibly mistaking the Western Deserts near Nevada for the Gobi. Then when they finally arrived at the Pacific and realized there was another Ocean in between them and home. They most likely would have buried everything they had in terms of valuables and possibly marched north or south in search of a land bridge or to confirm that the Pacific was not the Aral.
letter opener
Yeah... but if OP really dug this up the iron would have been in a much worse condition. Gold stays well preserved. OP is probably bullshitting us :P
Can you make a few more pics of the top and bottom OP?
If its an Imperial Eagle, it wouldn't have been buried is all I'm going to say.
I mean everyone around my house owns cows and shit
Thats what I think it is, I never found the blade part but I can't imagine it being too big or useful for fighting
Im gonna sound like such a goy,
but, OP, that might be cursed.
Unless you got it from the 99 cents store or something
Sure
>Northern Cal,
shit. the birth place of caesar himself
might be something to this...
From the dirt, should I go to /x/?
And the top
I would totally make a thread on /x/
The markings seem to be Gallo-Frankish in design. I wouldn't be surprised if it was made by a smith for a Gallic/Frankish noble as a family hilt, to show common heritage and identity with the late Roman Empire.
Another theory is that it could have been vikings, carrying something they attained on a raid for sentimental purposes (a decorative golden hilt would have been valuable to them as they revered ancient Gauls and Ancient Romans as the defining peoples of what the vikings saw as the "heroic age") I could definitely postulate within reality a viking expedition through the inlets of Vinland and down the Canadian rivers (a few portages included) to California. Where in all probability realizing they couldn't go back were attacked by natives or just died off having buried their treasure. Or you know they lost a man and buried his goods with him, the natives would've taken the body and maybe left behind the hilt or something.
Wouldn't have been buried by Romans. Could have been someone else.
Maybe the Romans 'buried' it as a sword, sticking it in the ground where they made a makeshift tomb (out of wood and dirt) for their commander.
Clearly a toy. Not much good a knife would do if it didn't have a tang.
Allright. Get it checked out. I can't tell from the picture.
Is the hilt filled with dirt OP? I see some filling there, is that solid?
Theres a piece of metal in the center. Im.no knife expert but maybe this part has the tang?
Yep, smells like metal
It's ornamental, its only purpose is to look pretty and maybe open letters
Look to me the blade broke of and that the tang is stuck in there. wtf. Get it checked out.
Im gonna, guess nows the time to find a pawn shop
stay the fuck away from pawnshops
Find a specialist to take a look at it.
Sheet, would it be a good idea to take it to a college?
They are from Norcal. You coastal or inland?
Inland, around Elk Grove
Yep, but don't sell if he offer money for it. If he does, go to an antiquarian first.
The blade seems too broad for a simple letter opener.
If you really dug it up, it seems too well preserved to be iron and the decorative theme becomes very interesting then.
Again it might be nothing, but better be sure.
That's funny, figured you were by Sac for some reason. LSB is out of Sac, give them a call and email them the pictures. See what they say.
I am heading to Citrus Heights tomorrow. Small world.
Wow thats funny. Get a shovel and do some digging. Maybe you'll find a sheild or maybe the blade
Well, since nobody asked the obvious question yet, what were you doing digging up your yard?
Looking at coins, i found the guy but it doesnt list the name
it's A, but the site had no key
Any clue?
My dog likes to burry things and I was trying to find something (usually I have to unearth my parents keys or shit like that) and then I found this
leveling archaeology
Maybe... but its a start!
>trees in the Americas are no ideal for shipbuilding
The British razed all the old growth forest in New England for shipbuilding you utter retard.
well, im off to bed. Get it checked out. Cheers.
if that picture is of the actual handle, it is in too good of condition to be really old
if that is augustus on the hilt, then it is part of a costume
wouldn't get my hopes up with this one
mix up your proxies?
Looks very close to a replica of one of Napolean's swords
...
OP is a larping faggot
This user is right, it's pot metal, probably a prop or toy or something. Completely worthless
Napoloen's dagger.
Definitely a play on this
Almost exact except for the guy on it, which ive had no luck with
Ok this is the one. Napoleon's dagger 1809
Original was created in 1809 by Martin Biennais
Sup Forumsocks confirmed for more resourceful than any other messageboard on the interwebz
Oh shit nigga
kek. The funny thing is the picture is supposed to be of Napoleon himself. It should have been a dead giveaway.
The roman style threw me off
Me too, I was looking for older at first. I never really think of Napoleon as an "Emperor". I guess he was playing up the whole first emperor in a thousand years bit. Little man syndrome.
It looks like a cheaper replica to me. The metal doesn't look of much value.
t. militaria collector.
Looked nordic at first glance but its definitely roman or byzantine
God damn it Sup Forums
Im impressed.
probably a modern day creation..
thats the piri reis map..its a redrawn map of an much older map. the orginal was probable from the library of Alexandria
that is definitely the sword of mars, the katana wielded by julius caesar that was rediscovered and used by attila the hun, and which is prophecied to be wielded by the one true and most holy antifa to bring an end to the era of shitlordery
"no"
lol to not get that thing taken to an expert dude it's a toy/replica
nice keepsake though
