Lad, what do I do if I can't bring myself to believe any doctrines or dogmas of the church. I took too many philosophy pills and don't really believe in anything. Peterson has helped a bit, but on an intellectual level, I have difficulty justifying a belief in Christian doctrines/dogmas.

1. The chain of custody is sound, the story doesn't change over time.
2. There was stuff in the Bible that was later confirmed by archeology(places, people, chariots on the sea floor of the Red Sea (Moses parting the red sea), snakes used to have legs, etc.)
3. There are even non-believers' accounts of some stuff Jesus did, just from them you can know a lot about Jesus if you piece it all together.
4. The differences between gospels aren't a bad sign, because witnesses rarely agree on stuff. If every eyewitness would say the same thing, it would be very fishy and would mean they probably talked to each other at one point.
5. The apostles died without getting rich, getting a girlfriend or getting power, they all died horribly. There was no point in spreading Christianity if they didn't believe in it. Why would they risk their life if it wasn't true? Why would they risk their life if it was all forged? Why would Paul try to join this new small church?
Also the only accounts of Romans getting Christians to change their faith was after the 1st century. No account of eyewitnesses ever changing their story.

Tbqhwyf, that is more of a pragmatic belief than anything. I consider myself an agnostic deist/theist, simply because I have no way to be absolutely sure about the existence of God, but I can see how one could reasonably argue from certain axiomatic statements in order to conclude that there is a God (and I think living as a theist is more likely to be a good life than living as an atheist), but that same sort of methodological skepticism leaves me without certainty about the person of Jesus, even though I grant that under less rigorous criteria, it seems reasonable to conclude that Jesus was crucified and resurrected. The holohoax has actually done more to undermine my confidence in Jesus than anything, because Christians will endlessly point out that it was ONLY 40 years (or whatever) from when Jesus was resurrected to when the first gospel was written down, but we can see how quickly stories can mutate over time, and who is to say that some of those mutations were not swept along, and therefore we cannot be certain about what Jesus said or did?
I'm just a bitter skeptic who is hanging on to his doubts so I don't have to subject myself to the endless agonizing over what to believe. It is so much quieter and simpler to just meditate on natural law and pray by myself. I don't want to try to figure out which denomination had it correct, or whether the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father AND the son or only from the Father. For 2000 bloody years people have been arguing over that book, and I goddamn don't feel like joining in now.

As an agnostic, I don't believe in god but I've said in the past "I would rather believe in something than nothing at all".

I believe in Christians who have denied scripture that does not coincide with their souls. The Bible was written by men by the soul was created by God, correct?
