After a lot of reading, I feel like the number of Jews killed was far less, but the atrocity was much worse. It wasn't a streamlined and well oiled machine involving gas chambers and holocoasters, it was people stepping over dead bodies and dying of sickness arising from the dead being so close to food and water supplies.

Of course the holocaust happened. But how many were murdered in a "systematic" attempt at industrial genocide, how many were killed in combat operations, and how many died of diseases like typhus while interred in the camps? Figures range from 2-12 million. That's a pretty incredible range.
Also, there were several other peoples who were ravaged by war and atrocity in the era of '14-'45. The Greeks, Armenians, Ukrainians. Why does the holocaust command so much attention in academia and the media? It seems like only recently with the 100th anniversary has the Armenian genocide gotten much attention and I was personally surprised when Hollywood made a film about Holomodor.

In every army there are people who are qualified to be in an army but not qualified for combat.
My dad was in the army during Vietnam but not assigned to combat because he was deaf in one ear. He was assigned to engineer corps instead.
Hitler may have had those people running the gas chambers while combat-approved soldiers fought on the front.

When mass executions did occur, they did not transport them halfway across Europe to kill them. They would take them out of town and shoot them, or load them in a train and hook the exhaust up the the boxcar and gas them with carbon dioxide and dump them in a mass grave next to the train tracks.
It is insane and not logical to think the NAZIs transported 1.1 million people to central Poland during a war just to kill them, along with fuel to cremate all of them so there where no remains.

No one claims that people were gassed inside boxcars. In some cases "surviviors" claim that people suffocated to death, but they often get their story screwed up because they claim people died in cattle cars. Cattle cars have slats that allow ventilation. It would be pretty hard to die of suffocation in a cattle car.

But what bugs me most is that if the holocaust were irrefutable, then why the need for edited photos?
This It's hard to maintain supply lines if they keep getting bombed by the Allies, not to mention they had to shut out any source of light to avoid being bombed at night. These supplies contained necessary things like food, medicine, tools etc. Think about it for a second. If you were a camp commandant and you had to oversee the welfare and morale of your staff and prisoners whilst maintaining an upkeep with a poor amount of resources available. You have to make very difficult decisions.
