My parent's generation would have been able to purchase a house for something like 3-4 times their salary, which then saw a dramatic increase in value to the point today where it takes something like 10-15 times the annual salary (depending on where you are in the country) just to get your foot on the ladder. Through housing they have earned money doing nothing and in doing so pushed most younger earners out of the market completely. These young people are then forced to rent, which is of course higher than it's ever been because the boomer owners have realised they can get away with charging whatever they want, because it's not like young people have the choice.
They also had access to free university education, never having had to pay a penny for world class education that enabled them to get secure, stable jobs. Then they pulled that ladder up as well, meaning people today are facing fees of £9000 per year to qualify with a degree that guarantees them nothing, entering into a job market comprised in large part of zero-hour contracts and part time work.
The boomer generation were guaranteed state pensions that allowed them to retire at 60 (female) or 65 (male), and this was fair enough because they had paid national insurance to let them do so. Except, there are too many pensioners and not enough workers, and the national insurance paid by them during their working life is not enough to cover ongoing pensions of people who are drawing it for 20 or more years after retirement. So, the national insurance of people working today is going to cover this, meaning that at this point anyone working right now is effectively paying into one giant pyramid scheme they'll likely never see a payout from.
But of course, my generation is entitled. We have it easy. I should be grateful I get to scrape by week to week while my rent and NI contributions go into paying the pension of someone in their own house, whose mortgage was paid off long before I was even born.

Yesterday I saw Corbyn saying he'd keep this lock in place on facebook (because the Tories want to drop it) and all the comments were talking about how hard pensioners worked, yadda yadda.
Truth is, they worked the least hard for the most reward. And a lot of that is because of the ridiculous increase in house prices.
For our generation having a family on a single income, and owning a 3 bed detached, is an absolute fantasy. For the pension generation, that was actually possible. And not just if you were some high flying banker.
Fuck the triple lock. Why should pensioners keep getting pay rises when the rest of us actually working and fucking paying for the pensions don't?
Meanwhile, I won't get my state pension until I'm 68. And what will that pension even be by then? Some party will remove it or neuter it between now and then (as will be required), so fuck it. Do it now instead. At least I'm not paying for something I'll never receive.
And that's before we get into the NHS and what state that'll be in by the time I actually need it.
