The only reports I've seen about him confirmed being gay are from people who had shit against him. For example if the SS wanted him gone anyway. Rohm wanted the whole power for himself, and the eventual conflict between him and Hitler was inevetable. Given that his revolution would indeed happen - in what shape would Germany enter the war? Remember that Rohm hated the "establishment" army commanders, and these commanders turned out to be the most successful during WW2. Also, complete destruction of the existing order would ruin German morale. Rohm hated Christianity and the moral values it represented, by insulting them he insulted beliefs of millions of Germans. He also seeked to destroy the capitalism in the same way communists did.

If Hitler hadn't taken care of him, the Wehrmacht would have, and would have turned on Hitler right afterward. Hitler needed the army. The SA had served its purpose.
There is no alternative timeline where Rohm overthrows Hitler and is allowed to survive, nor of the SA replacing the Wehrmacht.
