Take the JQ out of it for a second and think about the ideology of both the people in charge of Hollywood productions and the people who consume most of their media. The vast majority of Hollywood producers are leftists, and think of it. Why wouldn't they be? The left in America has been extremely kind to them because they all live in large cities. See, the American left suckles at the tit of large cities because that's where their voter base is. Look at an electoral map, and you'll see. The Hollywood glitterati have an interest in keeping the leftist government in power because all of the Democrats' policies benefit large cities. Meanwhile, the Democrats have a vested interest in keeping the urban poor both urban and poor. It's not taking a hell of a lot of money to disincentivize the urban poor from working, so where do you think all that extra program money is going? It's ending up in the pockets of the urban rich and the politicians. Meanwhile, the urban rich and the politicians are both feeding each other money, and the urban poor continue to snap up the crumbs and say, "Thank you, sirs. Here's my vote again." So what does this have to do with actors? Well, aside from a successful actor also benefiting from this system of urban exploitation and thus acting in rational self-interest by towing the leftist line, the people that hire them also benefit from it. A successful actor saying anything right-leaning is the entertainment industry equivalent of a fry cook telling his customers that the burgers contain gonorrhea. It may well be true, but his boss isn't going to take kindly to it. From the side of the viewers, it's a bit more simple. Most people who consume a lot of Hollywood movies lean left, and saying things against the left is against the rational self-interest of anyone who wants to keep that audience.

Once an actor's out of the business, he can say as he damn well pleases because it's not affecting his or his boss' bottom line.
