Mike has actually fielded this argument, he confirms that indeed he isn't a tradesman (though he has great respect for them) and prefers to show the general public the alternatives to getting a meaningless degree and showing good men and women doing truly hard work. In addition his show often made lite of his ineptitude at doing the dirty jobs he was showing and showing that to a lay person these jobs were hard, while extolling why they were valuable and payed the wages they did.

Bill Nye on the other hand cloaks himself in a learned pretense, as a sort of equal to the scientists he claims to respect, while ignoring the Scientific method and grinding a political ax with the influence his kids show garnered him. One shows a spotlight, the other spews sewage with pretension.

While much of what is written there is true about Nye, it's a bit misleading. Edison invented a lot more stuff, but he was never considered a scientist. The Wright brothers invented powered flight by brute-force trial and error, but it took scientists to figure out how and why airplanes fly.
Mike Rowe, OTOH, simply promotes good, well paying jobs in trades that don't require a college education, and has established a foundation to offer scholarships and grants to trade schools. I leave it up to you to decide who is offering a greater benefit to society.
