Ruger Mini-14 suggestions?

I've been interested lately in purchasing a rifle for home defence purposes, but I'm not entirely knowledgeable on weapons (still seeking to learn more as time passes). I read an article on home defence weapons and one of the recommendations was the Ruger Mini-14. Can anyone give me the benefits of this choice? Any criticisms?

get an ar15, id suggest a Smith and Wesson m&p sport 2. it will be a few hundred cheaper than a mini, will preform leagues above and beyond the mini and has lots of potential for upgrading.

They are so annoying to work on, parts don't fit, and there are very limited upgrade options.

I would say there is no wrong gun purchase when it comes to buying a mini-14. Just get one. Guns are a good investment. You can pass them on to your kids, sell them if you need to, and so on.

You can hunt with .223 You imbecille. I prefer semi auto to hunt boar or hogs. Usually .308 with a suppressor so I won't get blinded by the muzzle flash to do some follow up shots when they take off. Ar15 are great for shooting coyotes.

It's a pretty good tool for home defense but there are some limitations.

1. Not as handy in close quarters.
2. Typically the ammunition will over-penetrate targets and walls.

If you do decide to use it for home defense, then I would highly recommend getting high velocity, frangible rounds for it so you don't over-penetrate. Watch this video:

I would get multiple mags and multiple boxes of ammo that are devoted to home defence only.

Sight in the rifle with 55 gr fmj or other bulk ammo and you will be good to go. I am not shilling for liberty defense ammo, as there are many good defensive option to choose from like mag-safe etc, but they do produce a reasonably priced option that is effective for use in a home defense rifle.

this is more or less the answer. a mini-14 isn't really *good* at anything, mags are expensive and it's not particularly mechanically accurate...but it can be considered a handy size and without muh evil features it can be easier to purchase in cucked states

You can. if you're shooting small game they're quite good, coyote, fox and so forth. For deer and up you'll need a larger caliber though.
