It is well documented that Hitler approached Poland on multiple occasions before invading confronting them about the Germans that were being marginalized and killed. After bloody sunday, that conflict reached it's peak and Hitler decided to invade.
Winston Churchill was a warmonger that ultimately wanted to see the British Empire remain in control of Europe. In their quest to prevent hitler from regaining any more territory lost during the Treaty of Versailles, Britain and France refused all German attempts to negotiate peace. In reality they do not want to see any German expansion that might threaten their empires, but not because they were afraid Hitler was coming to conquest the world.
The British Empire in 1939 ruled over around 480 million people at that time, France was second largest.
The french and British empire then got their asses kicked. They literally got pushed to the sea. However incredibly, Hitler delays the attack for two days, leaving the british time to arrange a chaotic evacuation from the Port of Dunkirk. The british soldiers are forced to rely on merchant vessels to get back home, and all of their tanks and weaponry are left behind. Many historians suggest this was a gesture by hitler in line with his continuing peace offers as he could've dealt a devastating blow. Hitler also spoke favorably of the British saying they weren't much different than the Germans and he did not enjoy fighting them.

The British and French counterattack at Arras on May 21, 1940 put a fright into German commanders. The German armoured divisions had outrun the slower infantry divisions and German commanders were worried about their flanks. Erwin Rommel contributed to the general angst among German commanders by claiming he was attacked by "hundreds" of British tanks at Arras and was in favor of sitting tight until the infantry caught up.
While the counterattack had been fended off, German commanders feared another attack at Arras. It was the commanders who halted the operation, not Hitler.
