Genuine question; what is the attraction of socialism in south america? after so many failures and the like why is it impossible to simply run as a capitalist? How has the success of chile had no effect on the people of your continent? To see acountry rise up and become the richest of you all has had no change on your local politics?

If the people in argentina as you say are tired of the welfare state they are miles ahead of all other first world countries in that case. Here, the UK and the US are all heading headfirst down into the abyss. I guess that is what happens when you havent experienced a failure or collapse in a lifetime

Socialism is everywhere in the western world nowadays, what happens is that South America, and especially Argentina since the 70's, is statist as fuck, and state back here means high levels of corruption, which doesn't have to do with ideology at all btw. My country went from right wing ideology to left, and then right, but statism always prevailed.
It's difficult to get rid of because strong public sector in poor countries makes them more poor, poor people are concerned about more basic things so they don't care about corruption when they vote.
In Europe you have socialism but there at least they are responsible with the money (sort of).

Which is sad because Argentina basically carbon copied its constitution from the United States, which made us one of the most prosperous countries in the world a century ago along with America.
Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves.
