That might be true but its stance on the middle east espacially Syria changed a lot since both nations are involved, more so than Europe. We in essence inherited a refugee crisis when US and Russia decided to fight in the middle east and destroy Libya + Syria, those were 2 major blocks keeping africans and arabs at bay from simply coming to the EU because besides real refugees from warzones a lot of people coming over since 2014 are from other countries than Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan whom all just escape poverty not making them real refugees at all.
I mean most of this world is poor as shit compared to Europe so ofcourse once Merkel invited everyone over a lot of them jumped the boat or started hiking down the mountains up north.
Eritrea and Somalia for example are a real pain, these people should never be allowed in under normal circumstances but now they're refugees suddendly. Go to their gov websites and the first thing you'll notice is the highlighted piece on how to get a European Visa. Also the fact italian coastguard awaits or rather picks them up from the sea or north african coast and the bringing them onto mainland Europe is getting more and more criticism, espacially after 2016 since the numbers kept going up and they started wondering if perhaps something else is going on.
