Ideally they wouldn't, beyond a very, VERY brief "this exists, look it up" in terms of a formal lesson plan.

Anything formally taught gets torn to shreds by parents, so if you live in an area that disagrees with your point of view you're fucked.

We live in a day and age where children can find porn within clicks, they can also find proper information on this subject matter within clicks. It's better to give them a broad and objective view of things with some knowledge of where to further research if they so desire. That way their parents can't bitch and if they give a shit about how not to impregnate that girl they're crushing on they can do it themselves.

What I would like changed about how it works in the US is that they should specifically NOT take the attitude that kids are having sex no matter what all they need to do is throw condoms at them.

They need to just be given information without any judgement as to whether it is better to have sex or to abstain, that is none of the school's fucking business.

First and foremost they need to just tell people the truth.

Condoms only has been shown in studies to increase teen pregnancy, and condoms + education is more or less the same as just education. The implication is that teens will have more PIV sex when they are given condoms, and if they aren't' educated how to use condoms that results in more pregnancy which makes sense considering how embarrassing it is to buy condoms at that age.

Your teachers don't have to be rocket scientists to raise the floor compared to 99% of parents and the time/energy they can spare for general education. That having been said, if the US paid teachers per capita close to what they were paid in most other developed countries education standards would rise significantly.

I think that obviously sex-ed needs to be facts-driven, but that a fully objective education tends to either alienate students in its length or offend parents and students of sufficiently religious backgrounds. You want the basics of things to be objective, but also to direct them to the internet to make sense of things themselves, that way you can potentially win some students who would otherwise parrot their parents. There is a lot of value in what students discover and research for themselves as opposed to what is presented from the teacher in a lecture fashion.

1. STDs. How they are spread. How to not get them and how not to spread them.

2. Pregnancy. How pregnancy happens and how to avoid pregnancy.
