I'm going to sidestep the obvious bait about conditions and muh genetics and ask the thread this:
Could we properly socialize healthcare if instead of taxing people for not having coverage (i.e. Obamacare), we taxed people who are willingly making decisions that increase their risk of becoming a drain on the healthcare system, like being obese, smoking, alcoholism, etc. There's probably plenty of other indicators that could be looked at but I can't think of them off the top of my head.
Would such a system be possible? Do any other countries implement things like a fat tax to subsidize their healthcare?
