Athiest here who is strongly considering converting

Athiest here who is strongly considering converting.
Obviously I'm not choosing Islam or Judaism.
From what I've read so far, Christianity seems to align with my beliefs the most.
The problem is choosing denomination.
The 3 main sects seem to be Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant.
I've heard that the Catholic and Orthodox church added to the Old Testament.
That added with the Catholic church's pedophilia scandals are pretty troubling.
So which religions should a white American male consider?

Mormonism.

Mormonism

are you interested in truth, or utility?

>converting into a christcuck

xD

Ok, whoever is religious,
riddle me this.
If god exists, why is nigger too?

If your white then germanic paganism is the way to go.

thetroth.org/index.html

Orthodoxy

Why do you think Abrahamic Religions are the only ones to worship a deity?

>obviously not Judaism
All of the ones you mentioned are basically subsets of Judaism.

ideally truth, but there is no way of truly knowing the "truth".

I actually know a lot of Mormons and they are great people. However, I can't buy into it. Everything I read about Mormonism just screams bullshit.
I'd be willing to fake a religion, but not one that believes in magic underwear.

Paganism or Taoism, both are easygoing and permissive, basically, you will be doing what you are currently doing and nothing will change.

Christianity definitely came from Judaism.
But it was more of a rebellion than on offshoot. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't like the whole Jewish "tribe" aspect. I have Jewish friends that have mentioned that converts aren't truly Jews. Once again, correct me if I'm wrong.
And Islam just doesn't agree with me. If someone could provide a decent argument I would consider it.

What's the point if nothing changes?

>ideally truth, but there is no way of truly knowing the "truth".
there is a difference between believing the truth is unknowable, and believing truth is non existent. If you concede an objective truth exists, you goal should be to find the faith that it conforms to best

[spoiler]its catholicism/spoiler]

WHat would you recommend for someone looking for utility instead?

So that you could write this post

There is an objective truth. The problem is we can only believe what it is and never truly know.
I like most things about Catholicism, but I don't understand the whole "we added to the Old Testament and it's k" thing.
If I am misunderstanding that part can someone please enlighten me with sources?

Why convert?

Baptist & eastern orthodox (greek & russsian orthodox usually)

>Christianity
>Not choosing Judaism

Pick 1

You don't get called atheist, and religious people will stop annoying you as much.

Generally people argue Christianity removed things from the Old Testament, at least in regards to some of the laws. Are you talking about theology, like the Trinity, Christ's nature as both God and Man, or tradition stuff, like iconography, saints, the structure of the Church, and intercession?

I was raised without belief in religion. The more I've lived and seen the beauty of life the more I've thought that this has to be more than an excellent accident.
However, I've been wrong before.

So the closest you can get to objective truth is that virgins can give birth, men can rise from the dead, walk on water, materialize fish from thin air, etc.

>but I don't understand the whole "we added to the Old Testament and it's k" thing.

Because they didn't. The Protestants removed books from the Bible during the Protestant reformation. Martin Luther even wanted to remove the books of Jude and James because they didn't fit with his narrative.

Look, I'm Catholic but the first thing you need is a relationship with God. Seek God, and look for God.

I can go into the nuances of why I think Catholicism is legitimate despite having had horrible and disgusting Popes and terrible scandals. But the most important thing for you user, is to find God.

Protestant. The Catholic church is a cult that worships men. I'm not any of these but my father is a pastor who reads and writes Greek and Hebrew, and he reads the original translations of the scriptures.

He's actually got me reconsidering as well because of his perception on the bible and Jesus as a whole. Anyway, he's a really scholarly guy and his arguments for protestant scriptural belief are solid. It's the only thing that's relatively unchanged. The Catholic and orthodox churches are half Hinduism and paganism anyway. Complete bullshit

If you feel like you got no purpose in life, I'd recommend Evangelic Cristhian, is a lite catholic with no saints, it revolves around the basic morals and the core family.
In the other side, if you don't suffer of nihilism or existencialism then keep atheism but focus into creating morals by yourself that wanders around the survival of your race and the development of your community and children.

Even if you believe in Christ you should avoid religion and churches like the plague. Those people make their living off the wisdom of others, shitting on it and reselling it to pathetic old fucks and mixed up young fucks and they do it with shame and fear. Christ if you ever return you'll probably burn down churches.

The Protestants took out the Deutrocanonical books

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deuterocanonical_books

Do you know what the Double Slit Experiment is?

I have read otherwise, but I may be wrong. Can you provide any sources on this?
Also, does it just come down to a "he said, she said" sorta thing with the revisions?
I just wanna be a good person and raise a good family.

Hahahhahaa. Might as well be Muslim, what with your cult of personality thing going on. Wow one guy wrote your scripture, one guy is the core of the faith, how reliable, nothing stinks of human egoism there. Honestly you Mormons are some of the coolest and most stable people I've ever met, and I respect your family values, but you guys are fucking morons and cultists when it comes to blasphemously adding some random American dudes book as canon. It's pathetic and intellectually bankrupt

That the ultimate Creator and Arbiter of the universe can alter the very same laws He instills, yeah seems fairly consistent.

>Athiest here who is strongly considering converting.

Atheist would least know how to spell atheist properly.
Are (((you))) trying to make Christians look bad?

greek-catholic

Don't be a Catholicuck, they go against the Bible.
They call a man "father"
They pray to Mary
They have pedo priests
They used to tell worshippers to not read the Bible but to be spoonfed it by the church.
You have to pay a chunk towards the evil Vatican with the Pope and the whole thing is a corrupt mess they made of the Bible.
Be a simple Christian, no fancy pants stuff, you, a Bible and God, pray where and when you want if you want to be a Christian.
Why not Islam though?
Too tough for ya? or not enough perks?
Jews are out the window because they never accept anybody really, they stick to their own and look down on goys who join the religion without a bloodline to muh holocaust.

Got him there

>which branch of christianity do i convert to, goys?

whichever one has convinced you and whichever one you believe

>i'm an atheist

by definition you don't believe either of them. what the fuck is the reason for your post?

it's past 4am here. I'm sleepy and mistyped.
Don't cry wolf

The catholic church is the one true and complete christian faith, not that the others are wrong but they do not have all the sacraments nor the lineage back to Jesus Christ, who can also trace his lineage back to king David. True, the organization is being attacked by Satan full force, but that only validates the fact that it is true as it is the only religion worth attacking.

>I just wanna be a good person and raise a good family.

This is important. The question should be whether this matters more to you, or finding God matters more to you. Because you can be a good person and raise a good family without believing in God

>Can you provide sources on this?

Look up "Luther's canon" and "Luthers 1534 Bible" for more information

>Also, does it just come down to a "he said, she said" sorta thing with the revisions?

Translation revisions? It comes down to the translators and how they wrote it down really.

>I like most things about Catholicism, but I don't understand the whole "we added to the Old Testament and it's k" thing.

I've never heard that, it wouldn't be wrong considering the Catholic Church was directly started by Jesus and they literally wrote the bible.

if you voluntarily delude yourself because of peer pressure or any other reason, you are scum.

I guess agnostic would be the correct term.
I'm sorry my terminology offended you.

Fellow tipper here. If I had to pick one right now, I would join the local church with the best community, get myself "saved" to cover my bases, and then go deist while I learned more about theology. The right kind of church doesn't mind "seekers".

>ideally truth, but there is no way of truly knowing the "truth".
Christianity.

Denomination is roughly unimportant - just find a Church that doesn't just superficially claim Truth as their guiding principle (plenty will by virtue of Christ claiming to be The Truth). What you're looking for is any Church with a significant and active apologetic ministry.

Christianity has far and away the greatest resource of scholarly material, as well as critical material, to draw from. If there is any religion that could at least be falsified, Christianity is as close as it has ever come - literally, it would have died with it's Christ if something very peculiar didn't happen.

>baby's first existential crisis

Grow up nigger

chose baptist

we actually follow the bible

>So which religion should a white male consider?
Traditional Catholicism. Everything else is bluepilled.

Orthodox Christianity or Catholicism if you can live with the idea of ignoring our incredibly cucked Pope.

The only other Christian branch worth a damn is Mormonism but only because they're the Jews of Christianity/white people. Unfortunately, their actual beliefs are insane and they act too much like a cult.

All Protestant branches need not apply.

actually a ginger,, so the white kind of nigger

Christian europeans conquered the world. Atheism corrodes our society. You should pick the denomination that is mainstream where you live. It doesn't really matter. Outside autistic retards on Sup Forums, you will be accepted by christians of all denominations regardless.

enjoy those missing books, friend,

further reading supports what you say.
leaning catholic but will read the bible first and go from there

There are only two religions on earth suitable for the adult mind: Christianity and Confucianism.

For Confucianism, read the "Analects" or "Sayings of Confucious" which is essentially the Analects but only involving direct quotes from Confucious, or things he said.

For Christianity obviously the bible but specifically the New Testament, the Douay Rheims translation. Start with Galatians, Esphesians, Philippians, and Colossians.

The Bible must go hand in hand with theology, and ideally theologists that have a background in philology. I'll be adding a comprehensive list of readings shortly

Try this, name a human philosophy that doesn't end in bloodshed and pain. If you believe in objective and absolute truth(I do as well, and I simply seek it) then you have to start with the presumption.

Either there is God, or there isn't. If there isn't, walk away. But if you're like me and you can't shake the idea no matter how much atheist and pagan philosophy you read, then you have to keep searching for the "right" God. But what is a God? Are there multiple, and do they breed and die based on us worshiping them? Can we kill them by ignoring them? Any concept of his I can understand is therefore an extension of my own and humankind in general who. I finally realized that if I could fathom the things God does, or if I could kill God, I wouldn't respect God.

So now find a God that you respect. Allah? Sounds bad, legal spiritual rape of your wife? Beating women? Nah.

Jesus, in a purely scriptural sense, without the trappings of various churches, is the closest thing I can find. Jesus embodies the values that I try to. Speaking the truth. Being kind and selfless. Harsh rebuke of this who cross him but not cruelty. Honestly the dude punked out the government, the bank, and the Jew religious leaders. He was a badass. And if there is a God, and I have to choose one without fault, I can't find a fault with j esus in natural law, which is what I adhere to.

I'm still on the fence myself, just sharing my path with a fellow traveler

you heard wrong

No no don't choose a denomination mate. God's not interested in denominations, he cares about your attitude, the condition of your heart. He wants you to follow Jesus not a church.

Protestant if you want leniency in your life. It allows you to act a little degenerate but not fully.

Orthodox if you wish to go by church tradition and want to be farthest from degeneracy as possible.

Catholic if you're into being a degenerate who pretends to like church tradition. This is the rich man's atheism. Do not pick Catholic.

Mormonism. It's currently the only sect where the church actively tries to improve your life by making things like college, insurance, and other services massively cheaper for you.

Awesome, I will check this out as well

user I am very appreciative of all of your sources.
May I ask that you give me a short reasoning of why I should read all of that?
I don't mean to discredit you. I'm just naturally somewhat skeptical.

Read apologetics, Dr. William Craig's reasonable faith.

First become a deist and then learn Christianity until you convert.

Sounds 100% like ego and worship of the self. Way to find peace in God and not the material world.

If you are completely new to Christianity, I have found the best place to start is Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. He puts the concepts of Christianity, God, everything so simply. Once you grow in your faith, his other books like The Great Divorce, Screwtape Letters, Christian Reflections, Allegory of Love, The Discarded Image, etc. are amazing.

But if you are serious about this, mind you it is going to take all of you: but Christianity is an education unto itself. It sharpens your mind. And if you really give yourself over to God and Christ and kill that part of you that is still a devil, an animal, endless and eternal joy awaits.

Good luck and God speed

Protestant shill detected.
>muh nondenominational ministry
ALWAYS code for Protestant, ALWAYS.

Orthodox Christianity is literally the one true Christianity. Also their churches are made out of wood and smell great

because he's a catholic and wants to do it the way his church teaches. Listen mate, pray to Christ, read the Bible, pray for guidance in finding christian connection and He will help. No need to become religious, just become serious with the Lord.

...

the catholic church says they're the one true church and imo their churches look better. Which is right?

Wrong, neither is right. Christ is right.

>>muh nondenominational ministry
>ALWAYS code for Protestant, ALWAYS.
lolol I didn't even say anything about ministry I just talked about Christ. It's pretty amazing that you can pull out negativity from me telling OP to simply "follow Christ". All christians should agree on that

>shills against Catholics and Orthodox
Fucking called it. Ignore this fag OP.

>Using tithes to actually help people instead of pay lawyers is bad
t. Cathocuck

So are cigar boxes, but I'm not genuflecting before any Wooden Indians

If you sincerely believe that Christ does not want a Church. Evidence from both scripture and tradition imply otherwise. Peter called the rock, the apostles appointing a replacement after Judas's death, the myriad of Pauls letters to the green Churches. That, combined with the unfathomable number of mayrters whose deaths paved the way not merely for the speed of christianity, but that the of the Sacraments and the Church, both physical and communal, lend me to believe Christ wants a Church. Its His Bride, after all.

>Fucking called it. Ignore this fag OP.
how very christian behavior

I'm not against catholics and orthodox, I love em bros and sisters in Christ but I'm against religion that puts religiousity and outward things over real spirituality with God

>joining a branch that is dying off so fast, it won't be around in 100 years
kekarooni

Orthodox Christianity is literally about sticking the closest to the teachings of Christ himself.
Catholics made half their shit up, they got influenced by Roman and pagan gods, and by laws that made the pope reign like a king. And Protestants are just a reaction against Catholic teachings

ur church is an organization containing members, the church of Christ are people whom He has redeemed and whom He loves dearly

There's a difference between a saved soul and a box of stone/marble/wood

Not a Catholic buddy. I'm not into cults, I'm smarter than that. You on the other hand....

>From what I've read so far, Christianity seems to align with my beliefs the most.

You're an atheist who believes that a God exists?

Haha what do you expect from Mormons and Catholics. They are just like Islam in their cultish indoctrination practices. They are beyond list, but at least they vaugely follow christ

european paganism

I'm not going to convert back since I was a baptist before and don't want to be hounded about bullshit.

I do want to just hang out around non degenerate non leftists again though so I might visit a Catholic church, they have the cool Deus Vult imagery and saints and shit. Fuck all that phony tin box humility and let's give glory to "God" I mean western culture.

then why stress the "ORTHODOXY" so much? if you read the Bible pray and do His word sincerely you should arrive in the same destination.

But you don't cuz orthodox has its own orthodoxian vibes that differ from Jesus' teachings

>implying Catholics ask for tithes anymore
>implying Mormons (who actually pressure people to tithe, even young people in school) use it to help people
kek

user, just admit you're a Protestant. We're brothers in Christ, but you are acting like you're some sort of default barebones Christian that doesn't belong to a denomination when you do.

Anyway I have to go, hope you find what you're looking for brother. Lots of us are on this same path. Please watch out for egoic deathtraps where men add a bunch of nonsense to a spiritual practice and relationship.

I'm also atheist but I've been baptised to be orthodox so I think I'm just going to LARP and make Istanbul Constantinople again for the lulz

classic leaf post
however, you are somewhat right. I'm agnostic, but thought "atheist" would do better (I misspelled it).
I want to be a good person and raise a good family. Atheism doesn't support this, therefore I wish to change.

>ur church is an organization containing members, the church of Christ are people whom He has redeemed and whom He loves dearly

these are not mutually exclusive. But its clear from the New Testament that an organization is called for. Christ called the Apostles for a reason. Moreover, the Sacraments, most importantly, the Eucharist, necessitate a Church to dispense.

This post is literally the most retarded shit I've read all day. What the fuck is wrong with you.

Fuck you guys

Mormons are heretics, and not Christian.

MORMONISM IS NOT CHRISTIAN!

OP, be a Baptist. Most (excluding north east) are very traditional

>user, just admit you're a Protestant. We're brothers in Christ, but you are acting like you're some sort of default barebones Christian that doesn't belong to a denomination when you do.

I'm really not. My parents didn't sign me to the lutheran church here in Finland when I was bored and I don't actively attend any one church

You've read more retarded shit than someone asking about God?
What else have you read today?
And what does that say about you and your reading habits?
