Why does Australia not vote on gay marriage?

The Government has also introduced a bill today to allow people to apply to have their historical convictions expunged.

Gay relations were decriminalised in Queensland in January 1991, with 464 people charged with offences up to that date.

Under the new bill, men convicted for certain sexual activity once described as "acts of gross indecency" would be able to apply to the director-general of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General to have their convictions expunged.

"Our legislation aims to right the wrongs of the past."

New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory have expungement schemes already in place for this type of conviction.

its only a matter of time
our only hope is that enough boat people come and vote against it

it will happen eventually

just have to fight it while we can

give up sweety, you're on the wrong side of history

Because the Government aren't ready to give up that sweet sweet political football just yet and the Greens/Labour are terrified about it going to plebiscite.

They're afraid they might find out people don't like fags aas much as they say they do.

I think our government wanted to do that, but make it a national vote. Our opposition and greens parties which support gay marriage (supposedly) voted against it because they want to use it as a bargaining chip in the next election and they believe that the 150 member house of representatives should decide on it because they Australian population will most likely vote "fuck no"

Literally do not know what gay marriage means, what would changing these laws actually mean in legal differences? Married people pay more tax.

At this stage it's not homophobic to be against gay marriage because half of us think it's a plot to force priests to perform ceremonies for gay marriages.

People can always vote again in a few years if opinions have changed more favorably.

Cause if it goes to a vote most of Australia will tell the fags to fuck off and Labor don't want that. Same reason the plebiscite we were meant to have this year got called off

Could you give me an example where a priest has been forced to perform a gay marriage?

I'm surprised we've held off for so long. Australia is such a libertard country. I went to USyd (Australia's oldest and most cucked university) and it's insane how left wing yuppies are. There was a protest every week about something, and the Socialist Alternative is incredibly vocal there, although they thankfully did not breach the walls of STEM during my years, they may have managed by now.

Although I wish I was there during the meltdown of 2016.

poofter cunt

I can give you a few of cake manufacturers in America?

So it's a political thing.

That's why it'll fail. Because stoners want weed whilst social laws are relaxing and racial rights want aboriginal constitutional recognition. Informing homosexuals on the facts of life seems kind of second place no matter where you stand.

not bad, work on it

SA is vocal but a pathetic minority. They complain about the lack of women in STEM from the comfort of their humanities degrees but won't enrol themselves into it.

it literally does not exist outside of major cities

It's the right thing to do however I worry that lots of men who committed actual gross indecency crimes would be expunged too.

Lets have the vote. Greens and Labor are shit scared to let the people vote on it because they know the majority of us outside of Melbourne and Sydney will not support the pillow biters desecrating the sacred institution of marriage.

Hot af

please stop posting degenerate stuff user, it makes me give into doing degenerate things

Melbourne and Sydney have most of your people though.

that's true but overall virtually all Aus unis lean significantly to the left

But can he swing a battleaxe?

Politics should begin with ending foreign engagement, not shit dick rights.

Make Fucking Women In The Pussy Great Again. The female butthole is a gateway sphincter to casual male buttsex.

Soon your male friends will call you a homophobe if you don't have a little informal poke in their shit.

because we dont want it, but factional groups within both parties are strong arming party leaders into it. the compromise has been to have a plebiscite. the leftists say its a waste of money because "the overwhelming majority already want it", the coward nationals want it off the table because theyre afraid the leftists are right.

obviously nobody wants gay marriage. not even the gays. it's a religious institutional maintained by trad-fags and everybody from the lesbians to the athiests to the constitutionalists to the monarchists think it's bullshit, but just have to virtue single because "muh homophobia".

>The overwhelming majority want it
How many faggots are these people living with?

same as the rest of the world. 1% real, 1% teen bisexuals, 1% mentally ill degenerates who'll put anything in their mouth, 97% getting bored with their bullshit.

>I'm surprised we've held off for so long.
The pollies on both sides don't give a fuck about gay marriage. Shorten killed it off just to see if Turnbull would stand tall with with a one seat majority.

This. National politics should be based on foreign policy.

>gay """""""marriage""""""""

Not the majority. It's like L.A. and New York in the States...progressive cesspits of degenerates.

Americans voted on it in numerous states, and it failed almost every time. The courts didn't give a shit.

Between Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, and Canberra, which I all assume would support in majority numbers a gay marriage vote, that is likely a good chunk of your population. I feel like this would pass if it were put to a vote and so I'm not sure why Labour and Greens would oppose that.

By the time Obergefell vs. Hodges was handed down, giving Americans gay marriage in 2015, only 13 states had anti-gay marriage statutes left.

Women in STEM is the biggest fucking meme ever. I've worked across both physical and life science labs and it's pretty clear women gravitate to stuff like biology/biochemistry/environmental sci whereas guys go for physics/chem/engineering (the gender splits are pretty solid at 70:30 in each). Your better off with what guys do so people jump on their soapbox and reeeeee into the void because we need more civil engineers and chemical analysts as opposed to plant physiologists and behavioural biologists.

I gotta say it's a weird experience going a women in STEM function with your lab when your lab is about 75% women.

So much for QLD being the conservative state. I'm starting to hate my country.

because gay people can get civil unioned instead. a priest doesn't even marry two straight people when he thinks they aren't right for eachother (unless they pay enough and I'm sure any gay person can get married for under $1500 by going on holiday and paying some bullshit priest)

I just want to get the state out of marriage all together, you can have civil unions for everyone for tax reasons or whatever but don't trample a age old tradition because your not invited
