>every roof would generate an estimated $62,100 in electricity over 30 years

Assuming you pay an extra 10 grand for solar panels to return 62k in 30 years. Now assume you just invest that in an index fund instead that will double every 7 years.

It's all about feels with you types though.

Musk is higly intelligent no doubt, hes just gaming the system and your government.

>57,500
Oh fuck, nevermind, I paid 10 grand for a standing seem metal roof that will last my lifetime.

Not gonna lie. If I can go off the grid with that, I'd get it.

My posts were not meant to praise the man. He is a con artist that preys exclusively on stupid people.

No shit.

All these "green energy" bullshit companies are scams. Most of the US politicians had a bunch of stock in companies that are "green" and that is why they were pushing for green energy so much. Once they forced all the power plants to convert to gas, and stock prices skyrocketed they all sold their stock making billions. Now the stock is falling because the country is seeing its not sustainable. Technology isn't there yet.

So he had found. Way to double the price of solar

Now imagine the electrical grid goes down because it happens

Your index fund disappears and you have no electricity

Meanwhile I have electricity

Good luck

>technology isn't there yet.

There are no phenomena in the universe that could be harnessed to make it practical. We didn't invent fire, electromagnetism did.

A gasoline generator doesn't cost 70k.

It's the same thing everywhere. That green energy bullshit is a meme that needs to stop once and for all, it is not profitable, never will be, despite the heavy state subsidies.
Fortunately, in the US you've now got Trump who doesn't believe in this shit.
We, on the other hand, will keep getting cucked into oblivion with muh solar panels and muh wind turbine

>mfw I have to pay more for my electricity, so that the only electricity provider in the country, which happens to be state ran, can buy the surplus electricity made from privately owned solar panels and wind turbines

hurray for socialism

the solar panels will not last 30 years, heat can destroy them

>zerohedge

I can't imagine how poorly they'd respond to being iced over, but then again you can only get a positive net energy from something like this if you lived right on or near the equator. California might be too far north, even.

Solar has been and always will be a joke. It's a supplemental power source good for remote regions or applications and that's it.

Holy shit this guy is autistic.

He's just a terrible public speaker. Can he get some testicle implants at the same place that fixed his hair?

>if you lived right on or near the equator.
I remember reading somewhere that heat can short their lifespan.

That's true and the hilarious thing is that all of the telsa solar roofs have no means to disperse the heat they create.

These things won't last ten years, and by then solarcity and tesla will be bankrupt.

The batteries all have to be replaced every few years also. Think about having 10 to 20 car batteries that are what 30 to 50 bucks a pop and having to replace those every 5 years. Solar panels probably last 10. Supposedly this is a green technology, but if everyone in the US had to replace their whole systems every 5 to 10 years, think of all that waste in our environment.

I can't wait until the first one explodes and takes out half the house.

It's like electric cars, they cost much more, drive less distance, loses their efficiency fast, expensive to fix/ expensive maintenance and etc.
Cars companies won't make new cars that generates for them less money because they need financial growth every year.

Solar is a scam.

Nuclear is the clean energy solution we need.

>Nuclear is the clean energy solution we need.
>currently supplies 10% of demand.

What's your proposal for replacing the other 90% without nuclear proliferation and storage issues? Yucca mountain was cancelled. There is literally no where to put the waste.

Aren't solar panels in general a complete scam (i.e. they cost more than you'll get from them in the foreseeable future)?

Yes but it's very hard to demonstrate that to a lay person who has never heard of EROEI or Emergy.

They just put you in the "BIG OIL SHILL" box and ignore everything you say.

They are lithium batteries, user. It is far more than $1000 to replace the powerwall battery. Also Teslas ROI calculations assume no issues with inverters/accessories and no increased homeowners insurance costs associated with the installation. When these costs are factored in it is likely the system will cost the average 1500sqft homeowner ~$25k over 30 years

Pay Russia and Japan to store it at their already severely contaminated areas.

Not really a long-term solution.

Can't use that land for 50,000 years. Seems pretty long term to me.

>holes open in russia because global warming
>stuff them with nuclear waste
>two problems solved

What could possibly go wrong?

This is the nature of all solar panels so far, huge subsidies

yea buying home power supplies is a fucking meme, obviously you aren't doing it for profit, or else big businesses would be putting up solar all over the place

you can get a regular solar installation for like $12k with all the subsidies. why the fuck are his so expensive?

The glass and the fancy panels, mostly.

shoot it into space dumbass

being a hunting, camping, prepper with a healthy disdain for progress is the greenest alternative yet you'll never hear the liberal pansies taking it on.

slavery/serfdom was basically the perfect system

We make 2000 tons a year right now and can at best launch 10 tons 2-3 times per year.

Cretin.
