Polls regularly show majority support for centre-left policies. The fact that so many of them vote for right-wing parties is testament to the power of newspaper propaganda.
Most of the electorate have been duped into believing things like the renationalising of the NHS, Energy and British Rail (getting back our own Energy and public transport from other European governments) will cost too much money, while at the same time thinking leaving the Single Market without a deal won't bring any economic consequences (which will lead to further cuts on public services).
The Sun, The Star, The Daily Mail, and The Daily Express will continue to convince people to vote against their own interests.
The mass media have been owned by the same rich people who own the Tory party thus a big chunk of the electorate are deluded about some very important matters.
Perfectly intelligent people can fall for it just as easily as less intelligent people, and that's a big part of why the UK's democracy is seriously flawed, when 75% of the press is owned by billionaire tax-avoiders.
How do we fix this?
Austin Young

The electorate will only buy into renationalisation as a policy if they believe the party will be able to achieve it successfully and that they won't get the bill for it.
Mason Lopez
>Polls regularly show majority support for centre-left policies.
The exact same is true of right wing policies. The death penalty, a halt to both migration and Muslim migration, harsher sentences generally for criminals, the retraction of the welfare state from those who can work and choose not to all have a plurality or majority of public support.
Ayden Thompson

>The exact same is true of right wing policies
Correct, in fact, when they were talking to focus groups pre-referendum, both Vote Leave AND Britain Stronger in Europe found that there was huge support for a points-based immigration system - to the point that many people would bring it up without even being prompted. It was at that point that Vote Leave decided to start using the immigration argument (they were cautious to do so before then).
Cameron Parker
Because he's the guy in charge?

Given how well it worked with Miliband and the Labour-SNP scaremongering why wouldn't they do it again?
They're rolling out "we'll cut immigration, trust us!" for the 3rd election in a row now. Whatever works and all that.
Jacob Myers
>The electorate will only buy into renationalisation as a policy if they believe the party will be able to achieve it successfully and that they won't get the bill for it.
Then why did the electorate vote to leave the EU? By definition leaving the EU (and EEA) will lead to bad economic consequences, for this there's an ideological benefit (independence/sovereignty).
So then why are people against stopping the governments of other countries owning most public services/transport because of economic consequences? That goes against sovereignty in itself.
I just find it really interesting how last June these people were that desperate for change that they weren't bothered about uncertainty or economic warnings. They were that sick of the establishment and of being ignored and having their communities neglected that they were willing to take a leap into the unknown. One year on and they're ready to give the party of the establishment an increased majority, what was once project fear is now salient forewarning, and certainty and stability trump all.
Ayden Perez
Even using that infantile argument, that is false. The 'man in charge' is Simon Stevens.
Carter Rivera
>found that there was huge support for a points-based immigration system Ironically, if the Tories openly supported this, they'd probably win 50% of the vote
Of course they don't, because the Tories and their policies are controlled by (((them)))

Murdoch owns a significant proportion of the national press in which all contributors must clearly champion his over-arching political agenda; he has such power as a result that he has frequent meetings in Downing Street where politicians are reportedly fearful of upsetting him, such is his influence. The issue is not promoting an opinion in the media; it is the monopoly and thus the power and influence held by one man over the future of a whole nation.

This isn't to say that Labour are any better of course. The options facing the UK voter are:
>Vote Tories for a decreasing standard of living, rising equality, stagnating wages, slightly reduced immigration and socially progressive policies >Vote Labour for the absolute destruction of Britain through mass immigration and socially progressive policies.
Adam Sanchez
>@ >fuckoff newfag
Jaxon Watson
>Then why did the electorate vote to leave the EU?
Immigration and to a lesser extent underestimating the economic impact of losing free trade with the EU.
>So then why are people against stopping the governments of other countries owning most public services/transport because of economic consequences?
They're not. If someone other than Corbyn pushed a much more moderate set of nationalisation policies, Labour would do much, much better.
Matthew Bailey
Andrew Neil's autobiography goes into this a fair amount. It's really good.
