Communism is the next stage of humanity following the capitalist stage.
What exactly is communism according to Marxist-Leninists:

False, people were forced to have a job, but because the communist economies were garbage they mostly wasted time at the office or fucked off back home while still getting payed and ergo still having a "job". Not having a job meant you went to prison or forced to go to a factory to work, unemployment was effectively zero but as I mentioned above, it didn't mean that people actually worked during their work hours.

I'm Romanian, my parents grew up under communism. The situation was so obvious and ridiculous that sayings like "the day passes, the salary comes" [regardless of what you were doing, you still got paid and were under no risk of being fired] and "walking the pipe through the factory" [since you could literally spend your shift doing laps without actually doing anything productive and still keep a job] were not only extremely popular but almost always applicable.
You had giant factories with ludicrous number of workers, magnitude of times more than they were ever necessary, leading to extremely inefficient use of labor and capital. I highly recommend you reading Robert C Allen's "From Farm to Factory" since it explains just how much useless was communism's obsession with accelerated industrial development in hindsight, and shows how ridiculously inefficient things were ran.

Let me guess, a tankie? Communism assumes you give up all your individuality in the name of the "greater good" of the future generations. Doesn't matter if you're an unskilled worker, top engineer, a farmer or a school teacher, you all earned the same salary [with minimal different bonuses] despite the vastly different responsibilities and education each of these jobs entailed.
The people need to be obedient under communism because the first step of its application involves mass confiscations. In the initial phases of the communist industrial revolution, efficiency and growth is actually good. The problem is that you can't grow an industry ad infinitum if the population has a low growth rate [which in the case of USSR it was certainly the case], at one point the industrial needs of the nation will be saturated and the extra output will be wasted. Just look at USSR, its industry grew spectacular in the 40s and early 50s [partially fueled by the huge loot they drew from Germany and Eastern Europe] and then grew more and more ill as time progressed afterwards. It didn't help that R&D was completely separated from the industry, leading to high discrepancies between what the researchers were brewing in their laboratories and what the industry actually needed.
