I feel like Singapore can just afford to ship off their poor since they don't have spare land.
Also being the port city in the area it can afford to import professionals, in the same way Dubai is full of high IQ people because it is a hub but they don't necessarily make up the permanent population.

I dated an obscenely rich Singaporean girl whose father was some higher up official in the military... she said her and many of her elite friends didn't like the country or where it was going. Said it was too tolitarian and ruled by technocrats who had no practical knowledge of politics or working with people.
She really hated the current PM especially since he was a mathematics specialist with no place in governance. And that most of the young elite are simply being trained in foreign schools but with little practical experience or much else to actually aid them in ruling.

I really need to read his books. He's up there with Frederick the Great in terms of rulers I admire who show that something like a benevolent, Enlightened Absolutism is the ideal form of government.
Singapore wants to be Communist and capitalist at same time, Communistic mainly because of their history and race, but be colony of British because English is so cool. The fact that interracial is allowed is bad enough. Singapore is the most religious diverse in Asia and they have only 5 million people.

The question is, how do you ensure and maintain the "benevolent", and "enlightened" part of that type of governance? Because human nature errs towards greed and selfishness, and corruption is part and parcel of polititcs.
And of course, history shows most absolutist rulers were terrible for their people, so it isn't a great track record to begin with.
Singapore is lucky because they are mainly Chinese-Asian, if they had Mexicans and Africans and were poorer, you would have a real clusterfuck. How to prevent it? Not be a nigger. That gives you a huge civilization bonus.
