A lot of people voted for Trump because they hated Hillary. They hated her brand of politics and they couldn't stand what she embodied. To paraphrase what a steel-mill working friend of mine said: "I come home from a 12 hour shift and turn on the news and what do I see. But it wasnt just Trump's promise. It was the way he delivered his promise. He didn't use fancy words (hell, he rarely used words coherently). He didn't elevate his speech. He didn't pretend to be someone he wasnt. He owned up to the fact that he was a rich dude who said some crazy shit and was, for the most part, unapologetic about what he said. I think a lot of voters admired that. I think a lot of voters were sick of watching people "play politics." Trump was doing what politicians have tried and failed to do for a long, long time: Pander to the lowest common denominator. And it worked. People wanted an outsider. They wanted someone who wasn't "the establishment" (because, yanno, a billionaire isn't part of "the establishment").
I see it in people who voted for him. They desperately want Trump to be what they believed him to be, a champion of the common folk. They will do anything within their mental limitations to justify their choice. They will spin whatever happens to suit their expectations. Why? Because for the first time in a long, long time, they feel like their voice was heard through a Democratic process. Trump represented all those who felt stepped on and forgotten about.
What they failed to realize is that Trump has built an empire by stepping on and forgetting about people. Do I think he is better than Hillary? Absolutely. But that really isn't saying much.

It isn't necessarily. What we talk of as being the establishment is essentially globalists and neoconservatives. In most cases this means those that make their money in the oil industry or in fungible commodities. For Trump, he makes he's made most of his money in real estate and thus has to care about the state of the regions he does business in. That requires a radically different mindset than the establishment politicians possess.

I think the problem of our mainstream society is that in typical human arrogance, we think we know way more than we do. When you think of the Bible which, you probably haven't read, you automatically associate that with two things, the idea that there is a god and certain cliche stories repeated over and over again. Now the problem with the two things you have associated the Bible with are that they do not represent the essence of it. Now your probably thinking, "Oh this guys some religious Bible thumping nut," no and my point is that while those people do exist that stereotype is exactly what I am talking about. As someone raised Roman Catholic (no longer part of any established religion) even so far as attending a Catholic school and dealing heavily with the metaphors and intricacies of the Bible, there are problems with your cliche assessment of it.
First of all, you have to acknowledge the Bible, specifically the old testament, for what it is, a historical document that in essence contains several traditional stories passed down from generation to generation from a time when we have no, or very limited,other sources of information. The problem with that is that is obviously language has evolved since they we're written so much of the semantic meaning is lost in translation i.e. the idea the the world was created in 7 "days." So the idea of "God" to us is an abstract concept of the notion of some all-powerful being, but from the perspective of ancient humans, "God" or our creator is potentially a real thing we have no knowledge. So when someone says the Bible, "came from god" of course that isn't going to make sense to use since god is an abstract concept.
