Student loan forgiveness programs are usually used by people who pursue expensive degrees in HIGH DEMAND fields that dont' pay much.

I.E. 40k for a in-state public college bachelors in teaching or nursing to make 25-35k a year.

Got enough years now to either go senior DBA or programmer or whatever I want.

Going to work summers in my trade when the seasons busy and school in the off season, I make 37 dollars an hour. I'll have to budget well but I wont have any debt from school and I'll move up easier with the degree.

Because anyone actually producing, as well as any government employees, will pay off their loans far before the stipulations that allow loan forgiveness to set in.

The forgiveness plan recalculates your loan to over 10 years instead of whatever it was. As long as you make every payment you will have any remainder forgiven after 10 years. There are different types for how payments are structured, but anyone worth their salt will have it paid off before the 10 years comes around.

I started with 80k in debt and after two years am down to 45k. I was on the 25 year plan that came with the loans on signing.

Tldr it only helps people who dont give back to society.
