Our nation creates new currency to bail out banks and "afford" to run government, but as they create more money, it has less value. They just create more currency and add it to the national debt. Our currency IS our national debt - monetized debt. So now our currencies are too devalued to afford a family and start a life - this is why millenials can't grow up. You cant tell a generation on the internet that their banks need bailing out and keep their confidence in the banking system.

The American economy runs on mass consumerism from most of it's classes. There's tons of anecdotes I've come across of people making up to 100k in areas with moderate or low cost of living blowing all their money. Part of it is that we indirectly subsidized a lot of main components of cost of living outside of housing (which even that, we have some low standards and relatively little regulations that makes it cheaper than a lot of other developed countries in prices). Like 5-10% of the average American family's budget goes to food, while the EU average is like 20-25%, precisely because farmers get a lot of subsidizes, we have a lot of cheap and bountiful land, our food industry has little labor regulations and requirements that allows for very cheap labor, we're more willing to consume junk-food and not as conscious of basing our diets on a necessary healthy diet, and so on. We also have little tax and restrictions on gas and cars compared to Euros or other developed countries, so it's comparatively cheaper to rely on them than their. Thus, the end result is that there's not much incentive to be fiscally responsible like there is in many other developed nations, as it's more easier to recoup losses and less relative need to save for those necessities.

There's some positive aspects to this. It's not as simple as "nearly half of Americans are broke" but "most Americans are fiscally irresponsible and erratic", which is monetarily positive for an economy to have such rapid consumerism and money flow going on which allows growth and ultimately benefits those who are willing to be fiscally responsible, but it's an ultimate risky and vulnerable choice if anything gets disrupted by global market changes.
