It looks like the shape of the flying saucer indicates that it is built around a particle accelerator, with bigger vehicles having those build in. Perhaps it nullifies the gravitational pull completly, and uses the magnetic fields for steering. Considering it goes at 1/10 the speed of light, this technology must be incredible.
