How long does it take to get strong? Last fall I started to lift heavy weights for the first time and I'm certainly stronger but I still feel weak for my height/weight. I'm 6'1 175.

Depends on how serious you are. Eat 175g of protein a day and go to the gym at least 4 days a week. Do a 4 day split routine with emphasis on Deadlift, Squat, Bench, Pull ups, Shoulder Press, and Rows. You'll get pretty strong in a year if you keep it up.

I'm not necessarily fat, but I have a good layer of fat above my muscles, especially my hips and boobs. When I'm wearing a shirt I look like I'm in shape, but I'm definitely not and need to improve myself.
Any advice for a newb to lifting? Would joining a rock climbing gym in addition to a normal gym be beneficial?
