As far as I'm aware, the EU wasn't meant to be the organization it is today. It wasn't meant to dictate other countries' laws or force them to accept immigrants from other parts of the globe.
The EU concept isn't inherently bad, but it's been destroyed by incompetent beaurocrats, draconian laws, the inclusion of eastern European countries, and non-western immigration. Without immigration and far-left extremism, the concept of cooperation, free trade and open borders between wealthy countries in western Europe could work. But we don't live in the 1950s anymore. The world where this could work simply doesn't exist anymore.
