Average nigger and regressive don't have any own positions, they just repeat whatever prominent figures say. And all these "prominent figures" are on payroll of some NGO/media.
Only the "employees" (aka, Executive Director, outreach coördinators, spokespeople, etc.) of nonprofit groups receiving funding get paid salaries, generally. The model does not "pay" regular activists, typically, at least not in New York. If the group is a homeless advocacy or LGBT civil rights group, then the groups sometimes offer free metro passes (subway cards), food, or other things to attract a big turnout to major demonstrations. Because activists are struggling, generally, free metrocards and free meals serve as huge lures to achieve turn-out targets.
But you are right that the leadership of the nonprofit groups that receive his funding are not going to bite the hand that feeds them (literally). What you are pointing out is a huge obstacle to reform, particularly from within the Left, because Soros is there to cockblock reform from the Left. He gatekeeps what is achievable. Everybody in the Left is forced to occupy a very narrow band of what is possible to achieve in the cause of reform, precisely on account of the short leash that Soros keeps everybody on.
