First step: Read the bible. Focus on the new Testament as it contains the teachings of Christ.
Second step: Look into denominations. Try looking at the ones near you in particular and work your way out. Look at their views and their outreach. Good church communities help their local communities. Avoid TV or mega churchs. A lot of them are shams for money.
Third step: Find a church in that denomination. If you can't find one close enough look into a different denomination. Contact the priest and ask about joining the faith. A good priest will try to help you along your faith journey. I have seen a church die within a few years because of a terrible priest. Make sure the priest is decent before committing to that church.
Fourth Step: Get baptised. This step will cement your entry into the faith.
Fifth Step: Actively engage your faith. Proclaim the good word. Embrace Jesus in your heart. Go to Church. Get closer to God. Faith is continual. You must continue engage your faith to continue being that faith.

My church when I was growing up had the absolute best tag-team of priests. The pastor was this hardcore pre-Vatican2 guy who trained the alter boys to almost military precision, had an elaborate knack for pageantry, and laid things out like this is what's what and that's all there is to it.
The backup priest was this super cool guy who was all in to outreach and would hold the child-centric masses and stuff.
There's been better and worse since then, but that was an amazing combo. I've never seen the congregation as energized since.

Well if you're going to a Protestant church(Lutheran/Methodist/Presbyterian etc.) you just have to show up. They'll have introductions where you talk to the people around you, and they'll have fliers where you can see upcoming church events. I guess Catholics might have more cult-like practices. Interestingly, if you read or listen to an Orthodox service, they claim to follow one holy catholic and apostolic church as well, even though we don't call them "catholic" like we do Roman Catholics.
So to answer that you might as well start typing it into the internet to get into all kinds of historical details and debates about which sect has it exactly right. But basically "catholic" refers to any number of sects of "christianity" that meet a certain set of requirements believed to be more correct than others.

English versions of the bible are pure pleb tier. You should at least know two languages or greek before interpreting the bible yourself. Every english translation I've seen sucks at least in one place.
If you don't have the luxury of learning more than one language, at the very least cross check with online versions of greek bible and individually look at the meaning of each word. You're still going to get a better idea of what the english version wants to say than judging just by the english version. Even better, find commentaries on each verse, they tend to get into what each word meant when it was written down (reminder the bible, as initially compiled was in koine greek; individual books of the bible were in aramaic, latin or again, koine greek).
If you don't do this you're just going to misunderstand the bible because as I've said, the translators either didn't do a good job, the original was hard to translate into a simple verse or the meaning of the words has changed in english over time.
