We are killing ourselves with 9-5 jobs to make minimum payments. Forget houses...when was the last time an auto dealer accepted a cheque for the full
purchase price of a vehicle, knowing the buyer had actually saved up for it? Payment plans on furniture? Cell phones? Come on!

Lets compare the quality of life today with that of the original settlers...Picture this: You are one of the original settlers who came to Canada by boat.
If you planned everything right, you arrived in spring so you wouldn't freeze to death while you prepared yourself for next winter. You know how to fish, hunt,
and clothe yourself as all your peers do. You have approximately six months to get a warm, sturdy house built. For arguments sake, we'll say you actually
finish your house the following summer after another six months of refinement. Lets also be optimistic in saying your partner is able to feed you during this
intense home building time. Obviously you are not working for wages, but time is paying you with the fruits of your labour. How much of the settler's life is
spent securing a home compared to "Modern Man" today?

If a settler spends two six month periods working 12 hour days, seven days per week building a house, that house = 4032 hours of labour. Then they are
done with the topic of housing for the rest of their life (log homes tend to outlive their owners).

Now what does Modern Man do? Well, we are not allowed free land, so we need to do something to make money to pay someone for the use of a home on
some land. Notice I said USE OF. We will never actually OWN that home or the land, because of property taxes...don't pay and they take away. Regardless,
we don't know how to build a home (most of us) because our parents didn't know either. So we need money for materials and the labour of special workers.
We don't know how to hunt, fish, or garden because our parents didn't do that either. It's just as well, these days that costs money too. So we have JOBS that
make us money to buy all the same things a settler used to do for himself. But are we affording everything as well as that settler?

Lets say the average modern man has a 20 year mortgage paying $1400/mo. after having put down $30,000. When all is said and done, he will have
paid $366,000 (average price in canada right now is aprox. 350,000).

So we'll be fair and say that Modern Man's partner totally looks after the purchasing of food and clothes, while they solely work to pay for the house.
If their actual take-home pay equals $18/hr (aprox $20/hr. wage), they will have worked 20,333 hours to pay off that house when all is said and done.

Pioneer secures a home in two summers with 4032 hours of labour.

Modern Man secures a home in 20 years with 20,333 hours of labour, continues to pay thousands each year in property tax, and will likely spend $50,000
in repairs before he dies.

We are definitely living the easier life.

By the way, the Great Depression was a result of the top 1% of the wealthy having direct control of almost 25% of the Gross National Product. Same as

Every sq. Ft. of property in the US is owned, mostly by the federal government. Mostly via the BLM.
