Doctor Who died when Clara came on. I was so into it the first few years I wrote fanfic. Clara forced me out. Absolutely flat garbage character, stories all about feelings rather than thought. The show start to devolve into pandering liberals dog shit as soon as the BBC started to give notice to the Tumblr crowd/American fanbase. Before that they didn't give a shit about fans over here and the show tried to stay focused on being a show kids and families can enjoy.
After they started pandering it was The Doctor having the hots for Clara and heavy handed hints at homosexual (usually lesbian) relationship.
Then it went off the rails. The BBC thought international ratings would be a big deal. They even got Disney to buy a season of the show for Disney XD (which failed).
Steven Moffatt was then given elbow room to be as progressive and liberal with his stories and even more so after he's decided to leave. So now you have a bunch of Moffatt hand picked writers and directors on the show.
This entire season has been references to politics, gays, and other bullshit.
And it's hurting the show.
Kids and Families don't want to see a black lesbian flirt with some girl each week, or be beat over the head that she's gay, or have The Doctor spew a bunch of liberal bullshit.

But I agree that Moffat has turned the show into a leftist's wet dream. There are still some compelling stories (season eight had several very good episodes), but now everyone's a snowflake. Martha was black but rarely made a fuss about it, whereas Bill mentions her race every episode. Rose loved the Doctor, but she wasn't as overdramatic as River or too flip-floppy like Clara. Clara acted like she never knew what she really wanted, and it was kind of a relief when she got BTFO'd by the lizard lesbian in season 8.
