The problem is that they are among the major parties since the 2010's (and have the spendings that go with that) , but they have shit state fundings.
Those fundings depend on the number of people elected for a party, but with the 2 round system (unique to France) all parties form a coalition against FN on second round, and they lose.
The current number of FN elected officals is 1,992, with only a handful in executive branch (mayors). Compare that to 12,260 for the Socialist Party, who had 1/3 of Le Pen's votes at the presidential election.
A letter from the FN Treasurer to Marine Le Pen recently leaked : he wrote that because of that the financial situation of the party was terrible.
So what's the solution to this shitty system?
- Scrapping money where they can, like the on EU parliament's unclear assistant funding, risking problems with justice.
- Having russian banks lend money (since french banks refuse those risky loans where little money comes into the party) ... and ending up under Kremlin's influence
- seeking all potential sponsors including those in the UAE (who also finance terrorism btw)
