I keep hearing from other people at Uni here that Democrats and Republicans switched platforms in the 1960's or something like that whenever I bring up how the Dems fought for slavery in South during your civil war.
They never can answer how or when in the 60s they did this but it's just accepted "fact".
Is there truth to this or not?

Totally false. Republicans ordered the Emancipation Proclamation to free the slaves. Most Republicans funded the Underground Rail-road on the off-side. And I'll give the dem's a bit of credit. They didn't fight for slavery in the South. It was the Confederates, people who wanted autonomy in the states rather than a Federal Government Majority Power.

There was no switch. Conservative Democrats simply stopped replacing themselves after they died. A few libs will bring up a one off example of some racist who switched from Dem to Rep, but that's (I forget his name) but that's literally the only person who switched parties. You can't just pigeonhole each party and give an accurate representation of it. There were Republican abolitionists (minority), anti-expansionists(majority), pro-slavery Southern Democrats, popular sovereignty Northern Democrats, and so on. Yes it's true that the parties are the opposite in many ways from their general ideology at founding, but to just say they switched doesn't paint an accurate picture.

Democrats are the USA's authoritarian party, in all ways leftist and rightist, good and bad. Republucans are the USA's libertarian party, in all ways leftist and rightist, good and bad.
Nothing about those bases and their opposition really changes. The Democrats win when the public thinks their fellow Americans need to havd their freedom taken away, and the Republicans win when people realize ths means their own freedom is being taken away too.

The northerners were industrialists. The southerners here rural plantation land owners. After the civil war and shit and during the industrial revolution in the US, the working class started to hate the republican businessmen for being rich and shit. The dems took advantage of this to gain support giving up their racist views for more welfare and subsidies. The white people who didn't want to give up their shit to minorities because its bs joined the republicans and ended up as the "default racists".
Not exactly. It was a slower transition than most people realize. The South was more blue on the local level until the '90s, voted for Bill largely twice, and Carter before.
Both parties saw more polarization as time went on. The GOP's conservative faction gained more power over it in the Reagan-Bush I era, while the Democrats became more Liberal and Cosmopolitan over the Clinton-Bush II era.
That being said, the parties are still virtually the same, structurally. The Democrats are the 'Workers' party, of Labor (Management nowadays), Immigrants, Urbanites and Intellectuals. The GOP is the party of business, commerce, and smaller government.

Fast forward to today and the DNC wants people to forget their parties past and tries to make the Conservatives to be racist because we don't want special laws to help people based on race, don't want immigration to be a free for all, instead wanting immigrants to IMPROVE the country.

Basically in the 1970's Nixon had a election campaign targeted at taking away historically democratic states in the south. They were democratic in the south from the 20's to the 60's because of presidents like Franklin Roosevelt who instituted massive government aid during the great depression and the dust bowls that took the nation in the 20's and 30's.
So, the democratic party essentially moved north as the republican moved south. Read about Nixons Southern Strategy to learn more

LBJ took command of the presidency following JFK assassination. The Civil Rights Act happened because of him. This showed that there was interest in that sort of thinking. Building their platform they co-oped the plans of various thinkers - namely Herbert Marcuse - and went full on towards "social liberation" and civil rights.
This alienated the southern Democrats - named Dixiecrats - and over that time they switched to the Republican Party despite appealing to Democrats in every other respect. The Republican Party attempted - half-heartedly - to garner support from the Dixiecrats.
That's about as much of a "switch" as it got.

The unbiased answer may be understood by studying why Strom Thurmond switched parties. You can search the term. Strom was always a patriot and justly loved in South Carolina.
Saying they 'switched' is a ridiculous oversimplification invented by Jews to handwave away most of American political history. It allows the Left to reduce US politics down to racism/slavery and claim they have always been on the 'correct' side. The short version of what actually happened is that the Democratic party slowly adopted Marxism as a fundamental tenant while the Republicans remained somewhat liberal in the classical sense but also somewhat conservative. The Democrats stopped caring about almost everything besides 'human rights' 'civil rights' and ''social justice', while the Republicans continued in the American/non-Jewish tradition even adopting the elements of the Democrats that the Dems had discarded. Later, the Republican party adopted Marxist thought as well through neo-conservatism, thereby disenfranchising a huge swath of the country.

The democrats went all in to cash in on the black vote at the civil rights era which alienated the "dixiecrats" Democrats from the South of USA. Historically big KKK, confederate types of people.
Nixon saw an opportunity win the election by snapping up those loose votes and he did. So you've got the blacks who used to vote exclusively Republican voting for democrats and you have the American south who used to vote Democrat voting for Republicans.
