Being a Christian was never about feeling "good", retard. It's primary purpose is to instill virtues and morals into a society. One could make the argument that by doing good you feel good, but that can be seen as a form of self gratification in the form of Pride (listed as one of the worst sins in Catholic doctrine).

I presume you have evidence to back up this claim? Because I can see where the pirate guy is coming from. Putting in a large amount of rules and regulations with the threat of divine punishment would be an effective method of control. Of course for some people such control is necessary to keep them from fapping away their days. It's not inherently a bad claim, but I would still like to hear your side of the story.
