I am probably not the best person to ask, but can just advise off the top of my head say some of the things I have seen such as old places/towns, churches, buildings, castles, general parts of the country that I like and have these historical elements. I can't think of any recommendations in terms of shipping, though you might like some places along the Norfolk coast that have histories of shipping and fishing such as Cromer and some of the villages along the coast.
