Why would we need skilled workers? USA right now can produce all the skilled workers it needs without the need of immigration. The only exception would be expertise needed from a special kind of worker that it's trained outside of US, for example, chileans architects are among the best because of all the strict regulations they need to specialized tp build in there.

Well from what I know about this is generally immigrants can occasionally have more expertise with certain fields i.e. my college has several European geotechnical engineering specialists. However generally the people who would be doing the gruntwork, generally 3rd or 4th year student interns or recent graduates are generally replaced by these H1B visa immigrants, generally from South or East Asia. The reason is simple, they cost much less to employ than a US citizen.
I would need to do more research as to why but I believe since they are (((guest workers))) they don't get Social Security or some worker benefits an employer would need to furnish for a US citizen
