I have on from the Uk, its stab proof (tried to stab it with full force with an Kabar and it held) and bullet proof up to a magnum, ex copper vest, cost me a whopping 60 pounds.
I dont wear it all the time, but when I know there are big crowds or sketchy time of the day.

Also currently designing my extra leather jacket to become an undercover bodyarmour, gotta build plate holders for it that hold force. There's this Christian kid on YouTube. Look up ZNA productions. He eventually grew out of his cringey zombie weapon phase and started making crusader tread plate armour and stun gun powered riot shields. However he also did some home made bullet proof plates. They stood up to 9mm, I think he tested .45acp, birdshot (obviously), buck and obviously .223 went clean through it.
Maybe you could make some using that video as a guide.

To get a Gun License you need to pass a shit-load of tests so they won't hand out shit to mentally "diffrent" people, laws about Ballistic Vests and shit are very complicated, it's like, It's totally legal to own one and shit, but you need licenses to buy one, unless you buy one from E-Bay or some other country. There is, of course alot of holes in the System that can grant you a License for a gun within 2 months.

Im pretty sure the australian law doesnt extend to stab proof protection. Its for bullet proof. Police dont use knives and certain activities require stab proof armour.

Check out bulletproofme dot com, they sell "testing" ballistic panels with any order for like ten bucks each. They're like level II. No warranty but mine hold up fine. I like to stuff them in backpacks but you can absolutely sew one into the lining of your jacket and get comfy protection against handgun bullets, slashing, and fragments.

There is a company called blade runner that make bullet and stab resistance clothing, some of it is quite stylish. There is a nice jacket that has III3A level protection which will protect you against pretty much anything .45 and under. They also have some nice stab resistance hoodies for around $100 for the ladies, I'm thinking about picking one up for my sister this Christmas

Didn't see this post before my other reply. Yep, you have a full panel, no need to do anything other than sew one of these into your jacket through the shell (not the kevlar itself.) I'd tack it in at the top corners and use the jacket liner to keep it from flapping around. Don't forget to waterproof your seams because kevlar loses ballistic resistance pretty rapidly when it's wet and that's what the shell is for.
