Jet fuel can't melt steel beams, but heating them to such a degree will compromise their load-bearing capacity.
I'm not even saying it wasn't an inside job, just that you don't need to completely melt a beam for it to collapse. Do blacksmiths work with completely melted metal? No, it's only heated up enough to be malleable. If wood and coal is enough to do that, I'm pretty fucking sure jet fuel is.

I don't know exactly how it's done but, there's a "recipe" that you skim glycerin of the top of a reaction and it is extremely unstable at a certain temperature. So in theory if there's no container to house the expansion I.e. a Pyrex in a fridge it will just cause a fire.
